I use to travel (3 jobs ago) with an African American coworker. Three trips together--six airport security lines--and she got pulled for extra security questioning every time. I (white) never got pulled. The coworker died of a stroke in her mid40s, and I wonder how much stress from systemic racism contributed. Because that was just the crap I noticed at the time. I'm sure she lived with a ton more, every day.

...meara time...
This morning, the mother wrote me back that she absolutely had the correct address and I should stop this right now because she was my mother. Nope.
My 1st laugh today!
Husband just got a call for a job not only in this area, but in the specific suburb we live in. I told him that if he ends up getting a job 10 minutes away, after all of this, I might snap.
My 2nd laugh today!!
I'm stepping away from Facebook for a while. Might be a day, might be a week, might be a few hours...but between the politics and the latest murders and the politics around them...I just can't handle it any more.
I think I have to do the same. See comments 1 and 2 above.
Microsoft addressed a group of its interns as "bae" and invited them to a party with "hella noms" and "lots of dranks." And then closed it with "HELL YES TO GETTING LIT ON A MONDAY NIGHT."
My 3rd laugh today!!!
I could use everyone crossing their fingers that my dentist can see me tomorrow
~tooth~ma~
then asked Mac his age and both names while they had his passport.
I don't know if it is a thing, but when we traveled to Ecuador they asked the boys their names while they had the passports in hand. (eta: and Bobby got his age wrong much to my horror) Although, I do know and understand. My many extra sons from DH's coaching go through so much that my white boys just don't have to endure. It breaks my heart.
Or passive-aggressively poking at each other. "Three NO TRUMP!!!!"
My 4th laugh today!!!!
Seriously, I am just going to stay here and stay off the news and FB.

there's been shooting at the Dallas protest tonight in downtown. reports are at least one officer shot. shooter is not identified and is not in custody. really very little know, but there is some video up on twitter where you can hear the shots. many shots.
My fear is that when she gets elected (yes, WHEN!)
I wish I was as confident. I think Trump has a decent chance. If the convention isn't a complete circus and he gets someone who can be taken seriously as VP, then I think he'll start to bring Republicans home. A downturn in the economy might get him over the edge. And if it's close, maybe more restrictive voter laws might suppress enough votes to turn a couple of states. I think he's also likely to do well in the debates which aren't really geared to policy and nuance.
Probably just me being nervous. A Trump victory makes no demographic sense at this point, but I just don't feel good about it.
All of this fucking drama over the fucking emails, and it comes out today in the hearings that only three of the fucking emails were classified? And not even marked properly?
It's hard for me to form an opinion about it because I know squat about how the State Department works and how information is handled. It's not like they didn't use secure government communications at all, just that some stuff went through a private system. I suspect this may be a case of the State Department having to take some shortcuts because doing everything by the book would make their job almost impossible, but I don't really know. Comey has a good rep through, so I'm inclined to think his conclusions are reasonable.
I think he'll start to bring Republicans home.
I think the closer we get, the more Republicans are appalled by him. They might not vote at all and just stay home, but I don't think they'll vote for him. I believe Clinton's got this. It won't be a landslide (although, Jesus, it SHOULD be), but she'll win.
Sue, thanks so much for that link!
Rebecca, that's scary.

Right after I went to bed. It is not a good thing to wake up to, but likely would have wrecked my sleep if I knew. I'm just nauseous about the future.

This I believe. I have to believe the stark raving mad are a minority.
What a horrible situation in Dallas. I'm worried about this being blamed on protesters and the President.
