Billytea, I was meaning to ask--how the heck does mandatory voting work? Do they hunt you down if you haven't voted?!? I feel like that would be nigh-unenforceable in America, in addition to idiots deciding it would be funny to vote for Mickey Mouse (though...not like the current system is preventing that, Trump)
Am on a bus again, but this is a nice (and emptier) bus so much better. But my god, con drop is so real. Had a wonderful time dancing, especially lots of west coast swing dancing--some really excellent dancers, plus I got to DJ for hours and play all the songs I like, and that was super fun too. Sigh. Had already decided I wasn't attending a new convention in DC Labor Day weekend, but am so tempted to change my mind.
Ahhhhh.... my vacation is really over now. So sad. Maybe a face mask to wrap it up.
The friends whose annual barbecue we were going to had to cancel, as her mom went to the hospital this morning (she seems to be much better, now luckily). J informed me of this by singing "Freedom" at the top of his lungs. We like just sitting around at home together more than is probably good for us.
We did go out to the oldest Bob's Big Boy in America for breakfast, which felt like a very 4th thing to do, and even braved the grocery store. Tonight, drinking Moscow Mules and watching more Preacher.
I was supposed to go to my SIL's house for her hubby's birthday, but my dog has been so freaked out by thunderstorms and people playing with fireworks that I can't leave her. Zoe may be 75 pounds and fierce looking, but if she hears a boom she is shaking in my lap. We live close enough to the beach that it will be very boomy. I love it, but I won't be able to go out and watch unless DH and I take turns cuddling with her.
So I'm working today, given the exigencies of 24-hour tech support, and it's known that if things are slow enough you have a chance of being sent home early. However, I also know that, like Fight Club, you do not ask about going home early. The on-duty supervisor just wandered over to my desk, which is next to the other guy who's got the end-of-the-day shift, to tell us about a guy who just went to his office, to quote the supervisor, "whine" about people getting to go home early. Apparently there's a thing he wants to go to. Supervisor asked if we would be annoyed if he successfully whined into going home, and we said no.
So yay, points to me for nobly not hinting that I'd like to go home (though I'd really like to) and for the other guy making himself known as someone who asks for goodies. Pettiness, thy name is office maneuverings.
Flight out of IN cancelled tonight. So now we will be up at 4 to get to the airport for an 8am flight.
