Inara: So, explain to me again why Zoe wasn't in the dress? Mal: Tactics, woman. Needed her in the back. 'Sides, those soft cotton dresses feel kinda nice. It's the whole... air-flow.

A bunch of volunteers provided temporary foster care for the dogs until the AC could come back on - only to have 20 of those 'temporary' fosterings turn into permanent adoptions in less than 24 hours.

Good humans. You get a dog and a biscuit.

Helped our newbie resolve a merge conflict this morning so that I could get an epic code push started this afternoon. I am exhausted now, but I successfully ran away from my desk at 4:30 and I'll be home soon. If my apartment isn't too hot, I may make soup for dinner.

I also got a surprise gift and a bonus for helping out with something a while back, which was nice.

My Goodreads giveaway for Cog ended yesterday at midnight and I mailed the books today. Goodreads was good enough to give me the addresses as a csv file so I didn't even have to type them in, just ran the data through the labeling software. I figured if I won a book in a giveaway, I'd want them mailed out quickly so I should do the same.

Next week I have a three day free ebook promotion running, figuring maybe people might want to grab it for a kid or themselves for the holiday weekend. I'll see how that goes.

My laptop is starting to have overheating issues. Are HPs still considered to be iffy quality? What about Lenovos?

Dunno about HPs. I had a terrible customer service experience with HP and have avoided any HP product since.

My Lenovo Thinkpad Edge (i.e. the cheap Thinkpad) is five years old and has had zero issues. The only thing is that the battery has gone from about 8-9 hours to 6-7 hours, but that's the way batteries work.

Thinkpad T series laptops should hold up very well as those are the typical corporate ones. I've thought about my next laptop being a refurbished T series as they are available cheap that way from enterprise customers turning over their inventory for newer models.

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

Does anyone else think it is odd that Kareem Abdul Jabbar wrote a fiction book about Mycroft Holmes?

I did think it was odd, but interesting. I bought the ebook when I caught it on sale. It wasn't bad, wasn't great. 3 stars probably?

Connie, one I picked up (but haven't started yet) on a recent trip to Mysterious Galaxy is alt.sherlock.net. 3 AU Sherlock short stories. Looks interesting.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

OMG, I've done one half of one performance review, and I think I deserve a treat already! That is not true. (At least I only have 4 to do.)

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Crap! Someone or somehow the freezer got left open last night and now everything in my fridge has defrosted. Ugh. Now I have to figure out what to keep and what to toss.

Any clue how I determine what is safe to keep?

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Overnight I would toss everything, but I'm super paranoid about that kind of thing.

I thought I would be too, sj, but my paranoia is tempered by my annoyance. I looked it up online and we seem to have skimmed the magic line of 40 degrees/still has ice crystals for the stuff in the deep freeze, but tossing much of the rest.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

I would eat as much as I could without checking, but I gamble with food a lot and sometimes lose.

I stayed home yesterday from work feeling yuck. The same yuck I get every couple of weeks where nothing is really wrong, but I can sleep all day. Usually I still go to work, but decided against it yesterday. Today other people were scheduled to be out at work so I really had to come in (if I was legit sick I would not). Thankfully it is a very quiet day at work.
