I didn't intend to get salty about this (which doesn't matter), and I'm sorry I was so rude about the use of that term (which I hope counts for something) (being sorry, I mean). I'll keep it to myself.

Oh, no one likes to hear people dismissing stuff they care about, and it is kinda rude when people go into your space to do so. When I was writing, an acquaintance wanted me to come hang out instead of working on my book and referred to what I was doing as "that writey stuff." I wanted to clock him.

Well, speaking only for my own posting habits, if I wanted to say "there is a sporting event happening in town and I have no idea what's going on and I wouldn't care except the streets are kinda impossible" I *might* say "there seems to be a sportsball thing going on today" which I would expect to convey both my ignorance and my irritation at being inconvenienced by something I'm not involved in. Much as folk who want to use downtown Atlanta for their own purposes might say around Dragon*Con time, "the nerds are out in force this weekend" because they don't know what Dragon*Con is about and they don't care. Maybe we're all being little shits about it. But honestly. I've been mocked my whole life for not knowing about sports by sports fans who didn't know the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek just like I don't know the names of all the teams of all the balls. As many times as I've heard the equivalent of "blah blah blah *nerd*" I'm afraid I can't muster up any shame about "blah blah blah *sportsball*". I'm sure I'm not affecting them with my lack of concern.

Eh, if the guy's posting in your FB comments using language you've told him you find dismissive, a bit of salt seems called for. I wouldn't go into a stamp collector's comments discussing collectorfolk, even when their event was keeping me from a desperately wanted bahn mi. I'd complain here about it, though--sorry.

I love your use of the word "salty," Steph. Too rarely used, imo. I'm neutral on sportsball.

I was doing the deposit at work today and every time I came across a ten-dollar bill, I said, "Your name is Alexander Hamilton." Just, you know, because I could.

I like some sports. I like watching baseball. (I also like watching figure skating and gymnastics, and diving, and some other sports, but those don't seem to count as "sports" usually.) When my old upstairs neighbors were watching some sports thing and being really loud about it, I didn't really care which sports thing it was, any more than I cared which video game they were playing when they were being really loud about that.

Speaking of which, those guys moved out a little while ago, and the landlord has been showing the apartment to new people. One of them, the landlord stopped with him on the front porch and told him to look at the view, and he responded, "Oh, we know some very attractive women who live in that house over there, so I know that we will appreciate this view a lot." I really hope they don't move in.

Got to daycare and was told the little guy has a fever. I know he's been fighting something, with a runny nose and coughing. Fever's a new addtition, and means one of us will have to stay home from work tomorrow, as daycare's policy is for kids to stay home until 24 hours after their temp is back to normal. I'll talk to Gary about this when he gets home, including if the little guy should go to the pediatrician.(He's sounding a bit congested.)

It is dismissive and said by a lot of people in an elistist snobby way to point out very clearly that they don't watch or care about sports.

It just doesn't bother me because we all tend to be like that about something.
