That pain in the ass author who I had to call? He received a typeset proof to review, and he told the coordinator that one sentence was still incorrect. So she asked how it should be worded, and instead of just answering (it was -- seriously -- just deleting TWO WORDS), he replied "Contact the editor that I spoke with. She knows how it needs to appear.)

First, that is arrogant bullshit. Second, it was more work to type that than it was to type "Delete 'alternative approaches'." WHAT THE FUCK, SIR. WHAT THE FUCK.

(The coordinator's email to me said "Apparently he will not tell me how the sentence should read...please don't follow his example!")

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

In mildly better news, I just got an email that my employer (one of the largest in the city) is instituting gender neutral bathrooms in every building (there are dozens of them). A big FU to NC's HB2. Sometimes my instance of The Man does all right.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Also, check out how many people have already sent books to that school! [link]

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Man, it sounds like yesterday was rough for a lot of people. Sorry, guys.

Ugh, bigoted aunt just posted a picture of the American flag on FB with the statement "After the terrorist attack in France, Facebook was filled with French flags. I haven't seen one American flag yet, so I'm starting it. If you oppose terrorism, you'll share this!"

I've been choosing to not reply to the bigoted/ignorant shit other people have been posting on their own FB walls, because they are not commenting on my posts with bigoted shit. But ISTG, this flag post has gotten on my last nerve and I really want to tell her that the reason she hasn't seen American flags is because everyone is posting Pride flags what the fuck is even wrong with you you bigoted awful harridan?

...but I think I've hit the tipping point where I need to just hide all her posts instead. (I also unfriended Tim's nephew yesterday. He posted a picture of a bunch of assault rifles with the text "If you are in favor of restricting Americans' legal access to these, just unfriend me now." So I did. Hey, I can follow directions, and I'm tired of reading his posts badmouthing women yet lamenting why he's single.)

Woo, I am RILED UP today.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Maria, thanks for sharing the speech from the Lt. Gov. of Utah. I shared it on FB. Not what I expected, and I need to stop making assumptions about people based on where they're from.

That's why buyback programs exist when the funding for them is available. For any gun.

I got into it a little bit on FB with a guy who was insisting that buyback programs didn't work, that the only guns anyone sold back were ones that were already useless and broken. I let it go, he was never changing his mind, but man, there's a lesson. Facts don't matter when you've made up your mind. I'm trying really hard not to be a person who won't change my mind when the facts don't agree with me.

Almost every time a child gets hold of a gun and shoots someone, somebody tells the news the owner of the gun was a real responsible gun owner and how could this have happened! Every gun owner thinks they're responsible and safe. Even the guy who left a loaded handgun laying on a side table while he went to take a shower with three little kids in the house, and one of the kids shot another one. I remember one of the neighbors who talked to the news saying how responsible he was.

I think a lot of lives could be saved by just treating firearms s, you know, really dangerous things.

Why is this even a question, is what I don't understand.

And I totally relate to the feeling of 'how is it that everyone seems so much more connected than me?' No matter how much I contribute to my communities, I still stand alone.

I feel like that too. Always have. I'm not good at making those personal connections.

What an ass. I am now Senior Editor for two journals and Journals Coordinator for five. That kind of arrogant crap? Wastes my time, and I don't have a lot of time. It's hard to be patient and professional with jerks like that.

All the books sent to that little library made me teary. I went to their Amazon Wish List and it's empty - evereything has already been bought!

Yeah, my coordinator is annoyed as shit with him.

ION, I asked the dog "Pardon me, are you Kato Burr, sir?" and he just heaved out one of those long-suffering sighs.

Boy, you know what's fun? Listening to people argue over code syntax on a conference call.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

I just heaved out a very contented sigh. Thank you, Kato Burr.
