Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Why does it feel like it's later in the week than it is?

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Because these three days have been one million years long.

Or maybe that's just today. I feel like I've been behind all day and running to catch up. Exhausting.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

Congratulations ND for claiming your fiefdom! Do not fear to rule it with an iron fist. Then with a wooden foot, and finally with a piece of string.

Hi Raq!

Meanwhile, in Australia--bat invasion!

Please note that where the headline refers to 100K bats, they mean 100,000 bats, not 100-kilo bats. (Incidentally, Bateman's Bay is where my family went for our summer holidays when I was but a wee sprog. Gareth managed to get stung on the foot by a bluebottle, but we had no bat-related encounters.)

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Some recs for mac:

The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm, by Nancy Farmer. On the young end of YA, sci-fi set in a future Zimbabwe, three detectives with special powers are called in to solve a kidnapping case. [link]

Boy Nobody, by Allen Zadoff. YA action/thriller about a teenage assassin, first in a series. [link]

For quick, fun sci-fi books, has he read any Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams? Or for dystopian sci-fi, what about Trent Reedy (Divided We Fall series) or Marie Lu (Legend series)?

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

Boy Nobody is really great. As is Nancy Farmer's House of Scorpion.

Oh, no, Dana. I'm sorry.

Gud: I'm sorry to hear Girls Who Code turned you down. Did they say why? I mean, it's a donation, right?

Me, I stopped at the store for vegetables and almonds. And of course I bought some of Mary's jalapeno cheese puffs -- which meant that's what I had for dinner instead of the salad I had planned. Then I made almond bars for a work thing tomorrow, and then I made the salad so I have something to eat for lunch tomorrow.

Here's a nice tasty salad: equal amounts green and red cabbage, shredded; diced red onion; fresh corn (or canned); black beans; cilantro (if you have it and you like it); diced avocado; and crumbled cojita. Toss with a lime/olive oil vinaigrette (I made it with lemons). Don't forget the salt. I forgot the cilantro, but I made it a few weeks ago and it's really tasty.

Dana, could your husband overnight them, maybe?
