Not modern precedent, at least. James Garfield ended up as president after the Republican convention couldn't come together to nominate any of the people who were actually running that year.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Maybe the Republicans will come together and nominate Obama?
Holy cow, you drop out of current news to work on your programming project, and another candidate bites the dust.
Ha!
(You guys should all read Destiny of the Republic. It is why I have Garfield fun facts in my head!)
Could a Republican still run as an independent, or is it too late for that?
Not too late! Although if they are just starting now, they'd be hard pressed to get on the ballot in Texas, because they'd need like 80K signatures by Monday. [link]
I can actually name an honest to goodness moderate Republican: Senator Susan Collins of Maine.
Well, I'm meeting expectations, which isn't good, and apparently I have some interesting and potentially upsetting feedback to read. I think I'll wait to read it until Friday when I'm working from home. I'm too demoralized to make myself do it right now.
Maybe I can retire.
I love how "meeting expectations" is a bad review. "You're doing what we expect of you. We're very disappointed in you."
As I recall in my brief time as a not-actually-a-Google-employee, you can do a good job and still get what sounds like a pretty bad review.
