It was 8 years, and I had no problem with her having a much larger piece of things. She frames it as she ruined her life to come out and take care of mom, so she's entitled to the house. However, she made her choices, and she also lived in the house rent free for 8 years, and she was managing things, not doing the front line caregiving, we had in house caregiving staff hired in for that part. That's how she went through around $850,000 in 8 years taking care of mom. She also didn't work for most of that time, she's got a small part time job now.

She got the will and trust changed so that it goes to her, then my niece, then her husband, then me. The main asset is a house worth about $650,000. There's a line of credit against it, but even after that she's going to net hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I would have been happy giving her the lions share of that and maybe getting enough that Pix and I could have had downpayment on a house. I tried to have that discussion with her, but it was not on the table, she feels she is entitled to moms house, free and clear with no mortgage, and if I take her to court to contest it most of the estate will get used up fighting in court.
