Natter 74: Ready or Not
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Aw, my coworker left me popcorn! Nice.
I'm about to quit half my shows -- Scandal, Agents of Shield, I forget what else I'm over.
I'm watching People vs. OJ Simpson, and kind of want to start Lucifer? I love that guy.
My reality competition shows, which right now I think is just RuPaul's Drag Race.
Oh! Also enjoying Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which both called out how they fail the Bechdel Test a lot of the time the other week.
Interesting about the Magicians. I'd given up by episode 3, so might try again.
I've been watching a lot of Nevermind the Buzzcocks on youtube.
Finished rewatching all of the West Wing recently.
My usual appointment tv isn't grabbing me lately, but I am definitely finishing off The Good Wife.
We're behind on everything (including the last 3 episodes of Agent Carter), but: SHIELD, Flash, Arrow, Sleepy Hollow, Elementary, and Legends of Tomorrow (but I may drop that, Captain Cold notwithstanding). Oh! And Archer is back tomorrow!
I keep meaning to watch Steven Universe on Hulu, but like I said, we can't even keep up with what we're watching now.
The Americans, Survivor, The Grinder, Daredevil, Good Wife, Arrow, Flash, Beter Call Saul, Brooklyn 99, Silicon Valley (coming back soon), Agents of Shield, @Midnight--and we're behind on everything.
Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl have their moments, but I'm getting tired of just how stupid the protagonists are required to behave in order to advance the plot (see also, Daredevil). S.H.I.E.L.D. has suddenly regained my interest as it begins to tie into Civil War, although Ward is still the most boring villain ever.
I know that Publick and Hammer tried shaking things up this season on the Venture Bros., but it just seemed like more of the same, especially compared to Rick and Morty, which is fresh and imaginative.
Really liking Adventure Time. Still my favorite show. The upcoming Voltron reboot has piqued my interest, because it's being made by Joaquim dos Santos, who directed the good JLU and Korra episodes.
Elementary remains solid entertainment. There's not much else right now that I'm interested in.
In conclusion, yay BASEBALL!
If we can catch up on iZombie over the summer, that'll be cool, but we just don't have time right now. And I really liked it last season, so it suck to not watch it right now.
I still need to get my brother's Netflix password so we can watch Jessica Jones. (When I went to Colorado, we used my Hulu account to catch up on stuff he had missed, and I know he's still using it, so he owes me Netflix.)
I'm procrastinating on taking a walk (which is silly because it's 70 and sunny), so I'm saying it here for accountability: I AM GOING TO TAKE A WALK RIGHT NOW. (Or after I get my shoes on. Which will happen after I close the laptop.)
I forgot Grey's and Scandal.
I just downloaded the most recent ep of People vs. OJ Simpson. Have you been reading the interviews with Marcia Clark in Vulture? Fascinating stuff.
I know that Publick and Hammer tried shaking things up this season on the Venture Bros., but it just seemed like more of the same, especially compared to Rick and Morty, which is fresh and imaginative.
I do feel like this last season was kind of a return to form. Everything was sharp and looked cool. But as you note, it's not nearly as surprising/fresh as Rick and Morty or the comparable Archer (which itself isn't quite as much fun as it used to be.)
I keep meaning to watch Steven Universe on Hulu, but like I said, we can't even keep up with what we're watching now.
You gotta! Also, it comes in nice digestible 11 minute chunks. It's so funny - when it first started I felt a mild disappointment that it was as densely built out as Adventure Time or Gravity Falls. And it turns out to be incredibly rich in its own mythology and backstory and range. It just takes a little time to get going, but it builds out such a great supporting cast too.
Plus great songs, great humor, characters you root for, fist-pumping moments of Awesome and gorgeous visual appeal.
Reality Shows: Matilda has gone from Project Runway to The Voice. Hmph. Not my favorite kind of singing.
Shows I Didn't Watch But Want To Get To: Hannibal, Kimmy Schmidt, Agent Carter (all of which JZ has watched)
