So, how was your summer? Mine was fun. Saw some fish. Went mad with hunger. Hallucinated a whole bunch.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Thanks, y'all, I appreciate it. Ima get me some quality msbelle/Daisy Jane time on Thursday, and I have lots of great support, including youse guys, so we're all doing pretty well. The SO will join me in a couple of days and then a few of Dad's siblings will be coming in from Hawaii for the funeral, so we're going to have some good family time. We've decided to cremate and then will take his ashes back home to Hawaii sometime in a year and a half or so (so heads up, my island or island-inclined Buffistas!) which will be nice.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Beautiful idea. I have become very attached to the idea of marking the first anniversary of someone's death in a deep and symbolic way.

So my stylist just came over and gave me a bit of color and a blow dry. I am feeling very purty, at least in the hair department. My hair is longer than it's been in years, like below my bosom.

quester's dream about ita reminded me of my dream a couple nights ago, but since it wasn't about her I figured I'd share it over here.

My memory of the whole dream is rather fuzzy, but it took place in a busy restaurant and I was there with family and friends. We were waiting to be served, and there was a good bit of chaos, not bad dream levels exactly, but sort of stressful. Chief among those present was my parents and my sister, and at some point my dream self wondered if I should be concerned about attending an event in which the dead played such a prominent role. But on the other hand, family, so I stayed.

I just caught up on "how to get away with murder" and man. It is so confusing I don't even know who did what to who or why, anymore! Or who is lying and who isn't or who knew what when....I can't keep track! It's too much, Shonda!

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

You know the lantern we Cincinnati Buffistas made for ita last September? It was bad enough knowing that we would need to make one for Ginger this year, but god DAMN I am going to need at least 2 lanterns to list all my people (and that's just from the first 3 months of this cursed year).

So, look. I don't want to make a lantern for any of the rest of you for a LONG TIME. So just stay put.

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

What engineers do you edit for, Epic? I'm about to come over there and sit down with you. My guys are generally okay, though, except for the inevitable few loons, it's my wack department and vendors I have to wrestle with.

The company is in "turbine engine controls", so I have mechanical, electrical, and software engineers submitting user manuals, tech reports, procedures, etc. Technically I'm Configuration Control, rather than a Tech Writer or editor. The person who had my job before me just processed the docs, but I can't release them without proofing them first, so the job has morphed to include my particular skill set (and I think they may have gotten a bit lazier about proofing their own work, since they know I'll catch their errors). The engineers, like I said, are usually good about my corrections; but there's a couple in the Quality Dept and one in Trade Compliance that I'd like to commit some minor violence on.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I have to make this ridiculous complaint somewhere. My cube-neighbor across the way drinks through a straw and it kind of bubbles, which is fine but it sounds exactly like someone using a bong and that's very distracting. #misspentyouth
