I feel validated! I'd lose what's left of my mind if I had to do one of y'all's jobs that involve money and/or math.
Have I told the story of when one of my friends had a client who insisted that 10% of anything was always 10? Because 100% is the whole thing, and 10% of 100 is 10, therefore 10% is always 10! Easy!
The author finally emailed back (I swear this is an actual quote) "Oh! The footnotes have to be in order in the table!"
YES WE WERE TALKING ABOUT THE TABLE I DON'T EVEN
But at least she says she understands, so it should be off my plate. Now I just have to get through this dreaded board meeting. The secretary emailed the agenda earlier and I wanted to stab myself in the face just from reading it. (Definitely a sign I need to be off the board.)
Oh! Maybe I should download the cat game for the board meeting!

Oh holy shit. I mean, in a sense, 10% is always 10%, so yeah, but...NO. Percentages and numbers are DIFFERENT THINGS.
I'm trying to think of the most maddening thing an author did to me. I think the worst I've ever seen adjacent to me was when a principal investigator rejected our design for an informational poster, saying something like "You may not be familiar with creating posters for field campaigns..."
He said this to the public relations coordinator. Who had 10 years of experience with the program. Which mostly sponsored field campaigns.
Fortunately, in that case, we just referred him to our DOE head, who came down on him like a ton of bricks.
Percentages and numbers are DIFFERENT THINGS.
The map is not the territory.
I've had about enough of thinking for today.
So sorry for your losses, Liese & sj. Strength & peace to you and yours.
Wow, you guys make me want to go hug the Engineers I edit. 95% of the time when I point out an error, they just go, "Hey, yeah, you're right. Thanks for catching that." Have to fight a couple of the other depts, but the Engineers, hardly ever. I literally never thought I'd be grateful for the Engineers I edit, so, I guess, thanks for the perspective, Steph & Zen!
Tonight is my first Stand-up comedy class. I am excited and nervous.
Separate post for my condolences to Liese. I'm sure your father felt blessed to have you for a daughter.
Timelies all!
I'm sorry for your loss, Liese.
