I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."
Though there are plenty parts of New Orleans and the surrounding areas that try very hard not to have black people.

What do they want recommendations for? Stuff to do? Places to eat?
The Museum Center is great for kids who like museums. The ice cave in the Natural History museum is probably the coolest part. The Zoo is very good if the weather is good and they have weeknight concerts in April. If the kids are artsy or even art tolerant the Taft is a small art museum that had a good impressionist show up right now.
