Also bitter because she has Internet service here while I have to wait until we are somewhere with wifi. So all I know is what she's told me today...and I am irked that Obama selected an old white dude. Seriously?!?!?

Yay, benign!

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

meara, this is calculated on Obama's part. He picked the most agreeable candidate he could find, with a long history of bipartisan support. The end game is to show how ridiculous the republicans are being. They can't back down without losing a lot of face, so this highlights the obstructionism to the fence sitters.

Edit: a confirmation hearing with another candidate could seriously damage that person's chances in the future. Indications are if Garland gets a hearing and is voted down on party lines he'll be happy to stay on the DC Circuit Court.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Yay Consuela!

I will also offer that the left has its share of loonies, too.

Oh yes, but they're generally chaining themselves to trees or trying to have photographers thrown out of "safe spaces" at public student protests, not running for President. Sanders is by far the most extreme leftist I've seen with any shot at real power in this country, and while he's perhaps tilting at corporate windmills I'd say he's idealistic rather than crazy.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Oh, man, I had to do a lot of actual thinking my last hour or so of work. Was hoping to avoid that today. But I got through it, possibly even correctly.

Thanks, folks! I'm not psyched about the quarterly biopsies, but it's still preferable to surgery.

This is true. The GOP is really letting its freak flag fly (so to speak) in the presidential race this year

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

You know, of the various bullshit that pops up occasionally about Katrina, I am for sure very tired of "Well, our community had bad flooding too, but because we pulled together and helped each other, you didn't hear about it on the news."

Fuck you, friend of a friend on FB. Fuck you a lot.

Slogging it. Killing it in the swim as a result. But oh so mentally worn out.

I'm going to be on a hiring committee for my retiring coworker/sup's position. I have no idea what to ask. Guess I gotta have a meeting with my boss and retiring one. I had one good suggestion, which was to include the 3 month newby scientist who will be a junior to this new hire, because he'll need someone to complement him and knows what the holes in his knowledge wrt to the role are.

...all this provided I get.my.damn.job. Which is having me overbooked right through the deadline. Thanks?
