The reminder after things have gone south but before they have hit the point of no turning back, penguins at the gate south, that Howard was Steve's friend as well as Tony's dad. The other Winter Soldiers were killed by Zola in their cryo-sleep. Pretty sure I saw bullet holes in them.
Yeah Zola killed them, but I wondered if they'd been out in the world like Bucky.
Ooh, good question. I thought they hadn't but I don't know what I based that on. I felt kinda sad for them that they'd gone to sleep with such high hopes for being murder machines and then never got to wake up to their destinies, but really I just felt like it was a waste of scary characters.
When Zemo said "They died in their sleep" I thought "Oh, cryo failure, poor things." Then they showed the wounds.
It is kind of weird to feel sorry for them. But maybe they weren't as stable as Bucky--for a given definition of stable. They did go nuts, and that one guy made Bucky get him out of there. Perhaps that fic favorite of trying to reproduce what happened to Bucky and it failing .

Do we think they should have hit the parallel stronger, between Bucky being triggered by the code phrases and Tony being triggered by the video of his parents being murdered?
No, because then it would have been unsubtle, and they managed to make Civil War so much closer to that than the comics ever did, thank fuck.
I mean, they did a lot of that kind of paralleling throughout. Wanda going to save Steve and then miscalculating in the heat of the moment, Vision's error with Rhodey while trying to further his side's mission. More that I'll probably think of after an additional infusion of coffee.

But good for them! Unless one of them dies. (I have no idea how many episodes behind I am. Maybe 5? I feel like the last episode I saw was when Bobbi and Lance left. Or maybe the one after that, except I can't really remember what happened.)
