Discussion of all Marvel Cinematic Universe related movies and TV shows, including, but not limited to, the Avengers, Captain America, Agent Carter, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Daredevil, Spider-Man, Ant-Man, etc., etc., etc. ad-infinitum.
Discussion of non-MCU Marvel titles like the X-Men or the Fantastic Four is also permitted. Ties to comics may be discussed, but this is not the primary forum for comics discussion (see the Other Media thread).
Spoiler policy: For broadcast TV shows, blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast. For movies and Internet streaming shows, whitefont all plot-related discussion until it's been in wide release two weeks. Posters are encouraged to preface their posts to indicate the subject, particulary if switching subjects.
I'm still in awe over Karen Gillan as Nebula, who was a villain who was supposed to be killed off in the first Guardians movie. Seemingly through sheer force of will, she kept daring the writers to add more and more heft to her role until she ended up with one of the best character arcs in the MCU.
I mean, how profound is
literally killing off your past self?
Is there a better metaphor for therapy and self-improvement?
I'd say that
Tony being given the honor of Thanos' final defeat rather than Nebula is is my biggest issue with the narrative of the movie. I know that in a meta sense he's the character the whole MCU is built on, but it would have been so much more appropriate for her to be the one to rack up that victory.
Especially given that's how it went down in the comics.
Matt, after Infinity War, I said that I really REALLY wanted
Nebula to be the character who killed Thanos.
I don't think it was a bad choice
to have it be Tony instead,
but
if it had been Nebula, it would have been much more satisfying.
Yeah, even just
a version of Nebula killing a version of Thanos, even if it wasn't the final boss.
This post has some fanfic-related content, but is still a hilarious (and correct) comment on Cap:

Spoilers, obviously. A highlight:
Steve's
gonna Steve! Steve can do this all day! Steve is narratively exhausting! And so, like, I do get-–like, I get that the Russos tried to SEND HIM BACK IN TIME to get rid of him, but even then, he says he'll be right back and he KEEPS HIS WORD BECAUSE HE'S STEVE, and so they have to imply that he's really really REALLY REALLY too old to go on Steving.
Dana, this was my favorite part of that post: "Steve Rogers:
Deadly Grandpa".
Because it's not wrong. (In fact, I think a
Deadly Grandpa version of Steve was in the comics;
I vaguely remember that from [I think] a Squirrel Girl comic.)
I would pay folding money to watch
Deadly Grandpa
Steve.
edit
Of course I would.
Looks around at the truly embarrassing pile of Marvel branded toys and crap bought in the last month.
Talk about retail therapy.
Still cheaper and more gratifying than talk therapy.
Re: Nebula
She did
get to save her sister. I imagine that ranks higher than killing Thanos to her at this point in her journey.
Nebula's character arc was
more satisfying to me here than in the comics.
edited for being possibly insensitive
