Helllloooo, Marvel thread! I have never been here before. Skipped to a week ago because DH left the movie last night saying he had many questions and I advised him that this was the place to go.

Agree with so much of the above including love of the mathy jokes, Dinklage love, and the mulching, and of course, the baby Spidey!

My overall Marvel education level is limited compared to many so I was a bit overwhelmed with 'slow down, I gotta figure out who that is' moments. A pause button and/or closed captioning would be helpful. But mostly I followed that part well enough that I got over the fuzziness quickly. The character I am least familiar with from previous exposure may be Dr. Strange and I think I may need to explore there more before the next movie. Seems key.

Brief conclusions while I think about it more, yeah that was a lot of dead. Also, if Laura had been in charge instead of 90% battles and 10% witty banter and personality interactions there would have been 90% witty banter and personality interactions and 10% battles. It was like me trying to get through the endless war war and more war chapters in reading the worst book ever, GWTW. I am just not so much a wars and battles girl. Ypercentages!perceptionMV

DH loved it, but I left rather annoyed because of the above, and the blatant this shit obviously going to be undone factor. Which muted some of the horror and feels.

I'm more and more settling on being vaguely annoyed with the end. Because I feel like it's only OK if you're also seeing the meta, and then what's the point anyway. Because I would NOT be OK with all of those folks dying so unceremoniously (or at all, in some cases!) except for the fact that you know half of them have sequels coming anyway and that this is actually just Part 1. On the in-movie side, I guess it's Dr Strange giving up the stone so easily when he knew all the possibilities that does the same work.

That's what I like about it, though, that it's not ok. It's like Omar getting shot. But I do have the meta to fall back on, so I can rationally know that it must be going to be more okay than seems possible and that is, for me, quite pleasant.

I remain underwhelmed, and I really didn't expect that to be my reaction.

I like that inside the universe they don't that people will come back, that at this moment they're in shock and horror. It emphasizes that heroes are people and suffer loss and stand around looking horrified and gutted and helpless. Steve getting right up and being heroically encouraging would have been farcical.

Am I the only one who didn't really like Dinklage in this movie? We know from GoT he can't do accents, and that scene went on at least twice as long as it needed to.

OK, but how can the accent of the last remaining space dwarf be wrong, technically?

That's a totally fair point. How do we know the space forge ISN'T in New Jersey?
