I watched the whole season over the weekend, and I recommend it. I had to accept that the Big SF Mystery Plot was not going to be a major focus of the series and that it was more about following the characters' individual stories, which, though they were not all equally compelling, I enjoyed. It gets better with each episode, and it improves a lot once characters actually start interacting with each other while sensating instead of just having constant "Huh, weird" moments. That's what the show is really about, this human connection across cultures and continents.

By the end of the season, I loved all the characters, and I hope JMS gets to fulfill his five-season plan. The show does have a hot-mess quality to it (and the dialogue is not always the best, though it has its moments), but I respect its ambition, especially its mission to tell diverse stories. A sci-fi show with an Indian woman main character whose story is filmed in India and portrays Indian culture accurately, what.

I've seen the first 2 eps, and I'll watch the rest. I'm interested to see that my thought that this was very Altmanesque character studies, with an icing of supernatural (I think) plot hooking them together is borne out.

I also like that it's now all Western characters, which is ridiculous, and annoys me whenever there's a Global Choosery of The Specials plotline, and everyone's American or British, with maybe a French person, and the Token Minority, who often plays a Magical Negro role. Ugh.

I'm on the last episode and also hope to see more from this world.

The ambition is off the chain and the characters have really grown on me.

I have one major quibble, though I understand, I guess why storytelling on tv seems always to devolve to this trope but still...bah.

In particular I am sick up to here (indicating 50,000 feet) with the "our savior is actually the bad guy" dodge.

Yesssssssssssssssss. So happy. Especially because I had been becoming discontent that she never got to help anyone. I thought she had no useful skills but I'd forgotten she was a SCIENTIST.

I am fine with that trope, but it's unclear to me whether it's the truth. Remember: he loves playing games. Not sure he's not double-crossing.

As per your other white font, TOTALLY that! I'd begun to drum my fingers in frustration about the seeming set decoration nature of that character. Well, okay, no there was the moral and spiritual compass aspect but then...BOOMshakalaka.

I thought that was great.

As is my habit to find value for my work in nearly everything I see, I used Sense8 in a client session this evening as a metaphor for relying on our inner-selves for problem solving and comfort . It was most satisfying.

If I were to pick any nits, one would be that I wish the women had been a couple more dimension-al vs. "I sacrifice and fight", "I sacrifice and pine", "I sacrifice and run away", and "I sacrifice and am persecuted and then sacrifice some more ."

It sort of came out in the wash, but the theme was not lost on me. Though, I suppose that could be said for their counterparts as well.

Still, in the end, I learned to love all the characters.

Then again, I've always loved the ensemble more than the main character of pretty much ANY show I enjoy.

Sense8 - the ending to Smart Money Is on the Skinny Bitch was extremely satisfying .
