It's one of those shows that I watch and think, "This would be really good if they fixed these 400 things."

Brian K Vaughan has not had very good luck with TV shows. When he was on Under the Dome, I commented he was simultaneously writing the best comic book (i.e. Saga) and the worst TV show in America.
This is from the movie, but this is the quintessential Spike scene for me: [link]
ETA:
Is there a rule that characters named Spike have to be cocky? just asking ....
Maybe? Trying to think of other Spikes beyond Bebop and Buffy. I don't remember the one from the old Transformers cartoon being particularly cocky, but it's also been like 35 years since I last watched it.

Did you read the Y: The Last Man comic, Tom? Was it any good?

Before there was Chachi (ptui, we shall speak of it no more) on Happy Days, there was Spike, who was Fonzie's nephew. Some fan wiki: [link] ; YouTube highlights: [link]
Spike is a phallic sort of name.
My college roommate was nicknamed Spike the Warlord. She exhibited cockiness while in that persona, I would say.
Snoopy's sad sack brother was named Spike.
Spike Lee
Spike Milligan
Spike Jones
Toby Daye's rose goblin is named Spike.
Spike from Peanuts is not very cocky, good counter example
I've been enjoying Y: The Last Man. Not all the plot points stick the landing, but the cast is great and I'm really liking the writing. In addition to being sensitive to the treatment of gender, they are both brutally honest and remarkably subtle in their depictions.

Unfortunately, I haven’t.
