I think, once you are all set up, that an invitation needs to be sent to the tab that says 'video hangouts'...once you've clicked on the 'hangouts' tab on the left.
I've checked all my spam filters but no invite has arrived.

I think you need to click on "join hangout", not on "download hangout".

bonny, you should be able to join with the email I forwarded. Just make sure pictures are enabled in your email.
