'Safe'

ita's thread

A place where we can talk about ita, miss ita, and share information about memorials. The hugging started over here in Natter.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

The DC F2F was my first one, and SO fun! I have great memories of that weekend. I really regret that I wasn't able to go to the LA F2F the year before; I was just out of college and just home from, well, traveling the world, and I'm sure I had just started a job that I couldn't really take the time off from. Plus, I probably didn't have the money for the plane ticket. But still... I wish I had tried harder.

SA and Kate P. always seeming to be landing on my doorstep after world travels and hanging out for a week.

Yes! I also remember so clearly that you guys took me in when I got sick after the SF2F. I felt so loved and cared for. It meant a lot.

And none of us deserving the cruelty or the grace -- Leonard Cohen

The DC F2F was my first as well. I am so grateful to smonster for breaking me out of my shell and talking me into going! I was so nervous. I really wish I had had the money and the courage to make it LA as well.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

The DC F2F was my first ... I found the Buffista the previous August (I think). I still remember when someone passing stuck his head in and wondered if he could join. And the BARTENDER! calling someone about the crazy people!

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

The DC F2F was my first and only one so far, but this board has given me places to go and people to see for 10 years. Some of those trips saved my sanity. I am so grateful that I have people to visit when I have a work trip to take. My favorite memories are of the people, not the places. I think I've met a good number of buffistas over the years. And I'm not done yet. Thank you, ita.

We're all getting played with, babe. -Weird Barbie

The DC F2F was also my first one, and it was life-changing for me in multitudinous ways. As I said elsewhere, ita's work on making this board is directly responsible for so much happiness in my life. I would not have moved 3000 miles without knowing I had a community of people here ready to welcome me. I would not have gotten out of an unhappy marriage. I would not have fallen in love with Drew and figured out what a marriage was supposed to be. I would not have found my perfect school. I would not have met so many people I now count among my very closest friends, both online and in meatspace. This board and the people on it literally transformed nearly every aspect of my life. And I can never thank everyone involved, especially ita, enough for giving me this life I love so much.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Hey Buffistae, can you convene with me in the music thread and help me put some music together for ita?

Of course I know to include Bob Marley and "Carry On My Wayward Son" and some 80s New Wave and some Brazilian music.

But if you remember particular fanvids that she liked or songs you shared, come share them with me and I'll work on getting it together.

Meet me in the Music thread, por favor!

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Not that ita was always right...

I can't see us having much more than say 15 threads at a generous maxiumum.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Still not processing, and I can't think of anything to say that hasn't been said better already here or in natter (at least as far as I've gotten to catching up there).

Like many I never met ita IRL, but she has such a vivid presence in my mind. I would have liked to have found out if the voice of hers I heard in my head was anything like how she sounded in person.

More from the Roll Your Own Board thread...

DXMachina: I agree with Sophia on the naming issue. The whole enterprise should be buffistas.org. The board is just one part of it (albeit the most important part).

Here's another try at the logo, all kerned, t's & a's checked, smaller org, and a slightly less evil dot: [img:"Buffistas.org Logo"]

Betsy: You can still kern the fs closer together, ditto the i to the s and the s to the t. </backseat driver>

ita: Okay. I wonder if I'm the only one hearing this with a beatbox in the background and seeing Betsy rapping with a backwards baseball cap, Adidas logos, and lots of gold jewelry?

Quite probably.
