Happened to me once in a creek in Wisconsin. No euphoria was involved.
Likewise, only substitute a small lake in Michigan. No euphoria (and no pregnancy), only sobbing.

Incoherent screeching.
This. ita would be so proud.
you are all honoring her memory so well.
I just keep imagining her husband. "You're SURE they're all out?"
Well, she said that they count them going in and out
And hope that none of THEM were pregnant?
Oh DAMMIT, Toddson. Next level ita.
So, unwisely, I started wondering about the likelihood of pregnant leeches and I discovered that leeches are hermaphrodites and therefore, you could not just use one sex of leech to avoid reproduction!!!!! HOO-HA LEECH BABIES!
Um, thanks for doing the research?
And thanks to that I have done some surface-level research on leech reproduction hoping for something reassuring (like leeches don't give birth while their feeding or something). But no. Although leeches apparently lay eggs, so it's not so much pregnant leeches to watch out for, it's the hypothetical leech attaching its cocoon of eggs to one's insides, as if to a rock or a leaf.
So much for counting.
