We run into bandwidth issues occasionally as-is, so we'd need to upgrade the site.
ita's thread
A place where we can talk about ita, miss ita, and share information about memorials. The hugging started over here in Natter.
I would be willing to donate to keep provocateuse, but I think that we should keep it separate from b.org. It's a lot of bandwidth, and I wouldn't want it to interfere with b.org or be a problem if we needed to separate them.
Well, I have the archiver software running. It will take a while, and I think I'm going to need to archive each subdomain separately and then clean up the code to make it all work. I am certainly happy to host it at least until we see if we need to try to work something else out.
I don't own any reasonable domain names - I will probably put it on provocateuse.grizzy.org for now. I'm sure we could raise the money to register the domain but unfortunately it is coming up as already registered - I assume ita's hosting expired but not her registration. But getting it up and running is the hard part - changing the domain name is the work of five minutes.
I'm currently assuming we will be archiving it more as a memorial than a living site to be changed. If we'd rather try to keep it alive, then I can give somebody a username to access the code once it's all up and running, since that's not really my domain (I've never actually visited the site until today, but it seems like the right thing to do to save it if we can.)
I don't mean to dump it all on you, I just have no time until the weekend.
Not a problem. I love this kind of project and it is the kind of thing I can actually help with. It's nice to feel useful.
I am clueless and hopeless with this kind of thing, but I'm willing to throw money at it, when it will help. Throwing money at things, I'm good at.
Okay. It is downloading. The version I tried last night was getting stuck, so I aborted, went back to HTTrack. It seems to be working well, but only by telling it to ignore the directory structure of the original site.
What this means is that the site will come out in a format that will be totally useable, but NOT logical. So continuing to add to it will be difficult or impossible.
This leads to the question: is it worth it? Does it make more sense to just leave it on the Wayback machine, which already has it archived, and add a link to it on Buffista links? Recreating ita's original code and directory structure is not really possible.
I just got hit with a bunch of ita feels that I know would make her scream with frustration - random FB post of a list of Six Celebrities Who Are Secretly Business Geniuses!, and the accompanying picture is of Carrot Top. I have all the feels, but I really don't know how I feel about facing a lifetime of all the feels triggered by Carrot Top.
I don't think we need to set it up in a way that someone would add to it. I'm fine with having it preserved.
I guess I hate leaving things solely to the Wayback Machine. I don't know what their policy is, but if someone made a copyright claim against an image, I'd worry that the site might be removed. I'm pretty sure I've seen it happen before.
Would it wiork to set up provocateuse sites on tumblr? That way they could be added to. I would actually volunteer to set them up if I could get sent either all the images or links to the ones she used. I would tag each one with the subject's name, so it would be searchable. Crazy?
