We got no Trick or treaters.
We've been watching a Halloween movie every night this week. Hocus Pocus, Worst Witch, The Craft (I love following Fairuza in WW with Craft Fairuza), The Witches. Next year we'll start earlier and include Legend, for the Tim Curryness, and Lost Boys, maybe some Hammer Films Dracula. I'd love to find the Veronica Lake I Married a Witch to add to the rotation. And I need to get a copy of Bell, Book, and Candle. But it was time for Practical Magic last night, and H complained, because we'd watched it on a whim (after a day trip to Coupville, where Sallys' shop is) not long ago. So we watched Chocolat instead. And now it joins the Halloween movie roster. Perfect!
On grilled cheese, and -t's biscuits. Try splitting leftover biscuits, spread each half with a little butter, add a biscuit-sized slab of very extra sharp cheddar and run them under the broiler for a few minutes, just till the edges are brown and the cheese is melty and bubbly. Nom. One of my favorite things I have only rarely, because wheat.
That's a lot, Suzi. You're a better woman than I. Time for sleeps, now?
It got down to the 30s last night, so I turned on the heat. I wish I had a fireplace--this is perfect weather for one.
Oh! I have a fireplace! It's currently blocked off, because my grandmother thought it was too drafty. So I'm kind of afraid to take off the covering, in case it IS too drafty. I guess I could always put it back.
Oh, they can totally be drafty. I guess what I want is a fireplace like the one I grew up with, that Dad adjusted with fans and whatnot so the cold air stayed out and the warm air (sans smoke) mostly came into the living room.
60 upstairs, windy as shit outside and not going to get out of the forties. My sinuses hate me.
So I too, just turned on the heat.
I've had the heat on for weeks here -- I hate being cold! But I do regret forgetting to turn it down when I went to bed last night.
Turned on the heat for the first time and sort of figured out how to turn on the new heated floor in the bathroom.
Until this morning, my house never got below 63 and that was doable. I could probably have dealt with the 60, but for the wind gusts sneaking little cold fingers in. I think it is 50% mind game. And my sinuses hurt and I have to do work outside.
Oooh, if my bathroom floor was independently heated, I might've lasted longer.
That was the other thing: toilet seat was a little bit of a shock. (Bathroom is one of the draftier rooms due to skylight & vent.)
