Your friend should have left better instructions, Theo. You are not stupid!

Emergency vet sounds like the prudent course. I hope it turns out to be no big deal.
Not a stupid mistake, Theo. Just a mistake. How syringes are marked is not basic knowledge that everyone just picks up by osmosis, and those instructions do not sound clear.
Yeah, it sounds like that was very unclear and you are not stupid! You're a good friend.
I really should have investigated more before dosing
No, they left you with very unclear instructions. Which is not okay. I cat sit a friend's three cats and one is diabetic and I get the dosing written out for morning and night every time.
You are a good person.
-t, can you pick up the Box o Meat anyway just because it's a nice thing to do and see your parents and have a drink?
Yeah, friend screwed up. You give the mL's, NOT units.
No, at some point they won't be delivering to the drop point any more, there won't be meat there to pick up. I could just go and have a beer, of course, but it was nice to have that scheduled for me as a regular thing.
Bacon appearing on my porch as if by magic is a pretty good trade off, though.

Kinda hard to spin this as a hardship, admittedly. It's bacon. At your door.
For the longest time once I started relying on friends and pet sitters rather than boarding,I kept a syringe taped to the fridge with the dose taped off, in case I couldn't convey for whatever reason. But I have/had a weird anxiety/PTSD thing going on (just ask anyone who got The Book on cat care. )I can see how if the friend is suddenly hospitalized, that she might not have that sort of instructions set up beyond x-units, because that seems like enough info when you're already deep in.
Theo, from my perspective, you're doing the best you can with what you have. Hopefully, tonight ends the drama with you and the feline patient home & fine.

I'm going to back up and fully support, sarameg. I don't know how you ended up tending a diabetic cat and it's scary even with full instructions for me. I hope tonight ends well for everyone.
