Bacon appearing on my porch as if by magic is a pretty good trade off, though.
Kinda hard to spin this as a hardship, admittedly. It's bacon. At your door.

For the longest time once I started relying on friends and pet sitters rather than boarding,I kept a syringe taped to the fridge with the dose taped off, in case I couldn't convey for whatever reason. But I have/had a weird anxiety/PTSD thing going on (just ask anyone who got The Book on cat care. )I can see how if the friend is suddenly hospitalized, that she might not have that sort of instructions set up beyond x-units, because that seems like enough info when you're already deep in.
Theo, from my perspective, you're doing the best you can with what you have. Hopefully, tonight ends the drama with you and the feline patient home & fine.

I'm going to back up and fully support, sarameg. I don't know how you ended up tending a diabetic cat and it's scary even with full instructions for me. I hope tonight ends well for everyone.
Someone just warned me someone rescheduled a meeting at 4:30 the Monday I come back.
I.don't.think.so.
Well shit. So my current principal will release me (is education the only gig in the world where you need your boss's permission to take a new job? Cause I can't transfer schools without her signing off on it) but won't sign the paperwork until she has a new person in my job. So, I am letting my new principal deal with her. I think it's best for me not to push.
Fingers crossed for you, Calli, and congrats, Kat. Also, crossed for the weirdness of needing "release".
I had an interview today, but I think, as usual, I will lose to someone with more business subject matter expertise. I analyse all sorts of business, folks! And I'm really quick even when starting from scratch.
My mother has officially asked me to move home for the first time. But that doesn't help me find jobs in my field.
Or, let's be honest, jobs that pay like I've been doing this for 20 years. Because that's what's important. There are a million things I would switch to, but DUES PAID and I want continuity of cheque....:P
Ugh Kat, hope it all goes smoothly.
Fingers crossed for you as well, ita. On both work and mom fronts.
I want to go shooting with you, still, Burrell. I'm stacking up a list of "celebratory thangs" and I can't really justify the expense until income, but I want you to know I'll keep you honest if you still want to.
And if I ever work again...
Back from the emergency vets (which is one of the premiere animal hospitals anywhere) with the cat ensconced for the night where he can be checked on hourly. He LOOKS fine and ACTS fine, but evidently insulin shock isn't ruled out until 6 or 8 hours have passed.
Thanks for the kind words, all. Tomorrow (if all goes well) when I pick him up, they're going to give me the full "Your cat has been diagnosed with diabetes, this is how you treat it" orientation with injection practice and so on.
Cat's mom is in the ICU at last word, so I'm not going to bother her with news about this until she's out of danger, especially as this cat means so much to her. (She was taken to the hospital last night, so aside from directions on the label of the insulin bottle box, there wasn't much information conveyed.)
Talk about your stupidity tax, I'm paying it.
Interesting note of the night: the animal hospital has separate Cat, Dog, and Other waiting rooms to minimize stress on the animals. And complementary covers for the cat carriers because evidently some cats get overstressed staring at all the strangeness, and if you have them hunker down in the dark they're less nervous.
I want to go too, ita! Plus I still haven't made that sangria. I hope it's okay that those fruit have been macerating for weeks, er...

I approve of both policies. I can't tell you how many times my cats have gotten stressed out at the vet's because there were too many dogs in the room.
