Timelines, all! Juliebird, I'll just point upward--a lot of smart commentary above. I'm sorry your family time was so fraught and that no one seems concerned about your safety. That sucks.
I'm heading to the Champaign-Urbana, IL, area for an interview this coming week. Are there any Buffistas there? They sent me a schedule that looks pretty packed, so I probably won't have time for a F2F, but it would be nice to know if I have possible contact there.
I have a friend who is a music librarian at Champaign-Urbana, if you end up there. She lived in the triangle when we did. It seems like a nice community, although I gather there has been some fuckery with state pensions (which is sadly par for the course in most states at this point, no?)
That's good to know, flea (both the friend and the pension info). Depending on how they classify it, this may be a job where you get a pension in lieu of social security contributions. Which only works if the pension is still funded properly in 20 years. cf Detroit pensioners.
My job is state pension instead of social security. Another reason I do not plan a long career at my current workplace.
If you're going sleep-deprived, having the reason for it be dancing seems righteous to me.
Truth.
Good luck, Calli!
FTR, I did not get home in time to do anything other than feed the cats and collapse yesterday. Good day, though. Got to tour, among other sites, the Masonic Temple, which is a gorgeous art deco building full of secrets. Fun!
Calli, do you know cereta? P. sure she's in the area and would know any other fannish people around.
Good luck!
Thanks, Shrift! I believe I follow her but not vice versa. Still, good to know. If there's a critical mass of fangirls in the area, that would be great.
I still don't do Sundays, despite best laid plans. I kept going back to bed...
I walked down to the corner to see the parade, and it was great! And apparently done just as I was thinking I should come back to move my laundry and get ready to go apple picking. Perfect!
