Oh yeah, I have never made split pea soup (I don't think), but also would have no problem cooking it on the stovetop for hours. Pot roasts and stuff, I just make in the oven. I guess I just think of those as weekend tasks, and I am generally home for hours at a time on the weekend at some point. (And when I make a pot roast, it turns into like a month of dinners for me, so Big Cooking doesn't happen that often.)
I dislike cooking, and the idea of having a big pile of something that I have to eat through is unappetizing. But having a pot of stroganoff ready to go when I get home appeals.
See, I set the crockpot at 8:30 am, and got home at 4pm, and if not for the persky power outage that happened at 2:30, would have had soup!
I use a crockpot sometimes. It's good for days when I want to be able to just come home and eat dinner without having to cook anything, and if I've got some extra time in the morning.
I've been grading all day. Nearly finished. One more stack (of about 40) where I need to code the partial credit scores into the scantron, then alphabetize the scantrons, then count everything.
Mom is staying with me again tonight.
Timelies all!
We got a crockpot as a wedding gift, and have used it a handful of times. Mostly to make chili, but I did make oatmeal one time last year.(Note to self: check the box of rolled oats to be sure it is still usable.) I bought a cookbook for slowcooker recipes, but haven't really used it.
All good thoughts and prayers to your mom and to you, Anne. I'm glad she has you.
My shoulders and neck are killing me. I really wish I had some better pain management for days like this.
