Now I did a job. I got nothing but trouble since I did it, not to mention more than a few unkind words as regard to my character so let me make this abundantly clear. I do the job. And then I get paid.

brillig

Tomorrow I will brave the DMV to get car titles straightened out. My Jeep needs to be in my name, the Mustang needs to get its identity legalized, and the Rodeo needs to be confirmed as no problem. Happy joy joy. Must make sure the tablet is charged and my hands are up to crocheting.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

Nothing like going to the mailbox to grab the mail and having your neighbors point out that there's a film crew down the street, filming for a news segment on the mail theft that's been going on. The really annoying part is that everyone in the neighborhood is pretty sure about who is doing it (because they've been busted for mail theft before), but no one has caught them in the act to get them arrested again.

Hi locking mailbox that was just installed today. You're my new favorite thing.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

On a conference call at work today, one of the participants was named Geoffrey, pronounced with a hard G. I've never before come across anyone who pronounced it that way. I kept having to restrain myself from asking, "Are you sure that's how to say your name?"

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

So the fucking neighbors put an old sofa out in front of my house, and my mother just got a $50 fine because of it. I guess the city sends people out looking on Sept 1 or 2, because I actually moved it over to their house pretty soon. I also bet it was from someone moving out, which will make it harder to collect. Oy vey.

Is there an appeal option? If she has the time, pursuing that usually gets it dropped. But if you time is worth more than that...

Because I had a helluva time taking this damn selfie: [link] My senior prom dress, on me tonight. It's a little big, which is weird because I'm 20 lbs heavier than I was in 1993, bigger bra cup, but a lot more muscled and less baby fat padding . And I wasn't heavy back then and am not now. (Until about 6/7 years ago, I was anywhere from 20-50 heavier than I have been these last years.) Funny how body shape changes.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

That's a lovely dress, sarameg.

Yeah, there is, but she probably won't bother.

My mom made it. And swore to never work with velvet again. I don't blame her.

I still love the dress. I wish it hadn't sustained water damage ( the crushage at knee level. Fucking baggage handlers left my luggage out in a downpour. )

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Pretty dress. That's fascinating, the body shape changes.

Good luck with the DMV, Connie. At some point I am going to have to convince the State of California that I hold the clear title to my Toyota (we paid off the loan years ago but the title was filed in Louisiana and I guess that information doesn't get shared?) in case I want to trade it in or sell it or something but I have not figured out where to start. I asked when I was doing all the paperwork to give my sister the Volvo, but the clerk (who was very helpful with all the Volvo stuff) had no idea either.

dcp - like Godfrey without the d? Or like Jeffrey but with a hard g?

Box o' Meat collected. I am so relieved to have eggs again. And this month's package includes goat chops and a whole duck! An embarrassment of riches.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

a whole duck!

I'm picturing you opening the box and a live duck popping up and quacking, like "ta-da!!!"

Don't disabuse me of this notion.
