(I have no idea why nobody heard her, especially yelling the word "help," and came out to see what was happening.)
That seems further evidence of their lack of concern about your safety and general security issues.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.

You're allowed to let other people solve their own problems.
This is key.
In my own world - cramps, multi-day migraine, period, AND hot flashes...suck. SUCK. Did I mention I have an IUD and don't normally have monthlies anymore? SUCKS!
I just feel like I can't quit. Because they'll have to find a replacement, and it was hard enough to con me into doing it. And if they can't find a replacement, then they won't be able to have a library for the members. (WHO NEVER RETURN BOOKS.)
Well. Then they won't be able to have a library. It's not your responsibility to ensure they do have one. It is your right to feel safe, and it's your right to decide how to allocate your time.
If the library subsequently folds, it's on them. Your impact on the situation was to keep it running for longer than it otherwise would have.
Between the chair's response and you actually being faced with intimidating and/or crazy people in the past, I'd say they're lucky if you notify them you're quitting rather than just not showing up and letting them figure it out.
I just realized that having a grapevine probably means I can make stuffed grape leaves. In fact, I am probably obligated to.
Here's your dumb question of the day: are grape leaves actually edible, or are they just used to wrap up the edible stuff?
The leaves are edible.
Edible and tasty!
[Oh god, volunteer chair has emailed me 3 more times -- in the past couple of hours -- since I said "I am working late tonight I can't run out a list for you of the books" to try to get me to run out a list of the books. All of my replies were polite and yet indicating that I HAVE WORKED PAST 11 EVERY NIGHT THIS WEEK so no, I can't just jump when you say jump. So the most recent email said "Call me at 10 p.m. and I can talk you through it."
Is this where I get to stop being polite and say "I guess I didn't make it clear enough the first 3 times I said I am working UNTIL 11 TONIGHT, but NO I AM NOT YOUR LACKEY AND I CANNOT GIVE YOU A LIST JUST BECAUSE YOU WANT IT RIGHT NOW SO FUCK THE HELL OFF"?]
Tim heard me yelling at the email and said "Tell her I'll call her and she can walk me through it." Which is sweet, but I hate capitulating to people who think they own your time.
Hmm. This is definitely confirming that my desire to quit is the right idea.
Yup.
I would ignore the emails, you've already answered her questions. She is also abusing you. You don't need to put up with it.
