Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Hey, Hil, want to look up some genealogy stuff for me?

Sure.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I've traced back to a Johann Wichner, 1700-1772, who is the first non-French ancestor I've found. He emigrated from Germany at some point, but without an Ancestry.com membership, I can't find any details about him. I'm just curious to see what you can find.

Interestingly, I think "Wichner" becomes "Vicknair" once he and his wife move to Louisiana.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

OMG, a popcorn store in the neighborhood would be my undoing.

I walk by Garrett's daily and am astounded at people lining up before the store opens. I find the smell (which they intentionally pump out) sickening.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

msbelle, I can be your go-to for SPN. I've been onboard since the first ep. They just filmed episode 200.

OK, first thing I see is that there are a whole bunch of other people researching him. His middle name was Nicholas, and it seems like he was mostly known as Nicholas when he was in the US. Here's a website with a whole lot of information on the family: [link]

Yeah, that website is actually where I found him. It amazes me that it's still up, being hosted where it is.

The internet doesn't have all that much information on anything that far back -- you can find lists of Revolutionary War soldiers and stuff like that, and there are a few censuses, but most records of births and deaths and marriages were just kept by the churches, and only a few of them have put in the work to get them online and searchable. There is an LDS website that has scans of a lot of the old church records, but the earliest they have them in Louisiana is 1805, and I'm sure they're not anywhere close to complete. Stuff like that, you usually have to actually go to the church and go through the books yourself.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

All right BevDog, you are on. Since you are on LJ, I might do a watch and post every few eps over there. That is if it takes. From the pilot, I will say I will watch another.
