Natter 73: Chuck Norris only wishes he could Natter
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
OK. I will make it so.
ETA: 2 oz gin + 3/4 oz lemon juice + heaping tablespoon of strawberry puree. Pretty good! And that's the last of my Hendricks. I am tempted to search back through Natter for my initial asking for gin buying advice so I can nail down exactly how long it took me to drink that...
So the interview went pretty well, although I'm worried because I'm near the end of the interviews, and apparently being near the end is bad.
Anyway, a woman I know/am friendly with was on the panel, which was a surprise. Not sure whether this is good, but I choose to think it's good. It was all women, actually, surprising because last year it was all men (maybe they got comments on that). They had good sensible questions and I had answers for everything, and we filled all the time. They even had follow-up questions, and I had questions for them about the job.
I'm still waiting on another, federal, job, which would be Great if I get it, but I probably won't, even though I'm totally qualified for it. That one would be great because it's a promotion and it's two hundred yards from my current job, and thus a relatively simple cheap commute that keeps me on this side of the Bay.
The job I interviewed for today would be in SF, and would be stressful, probably, with a rather more difficult commute (bus to Muni or carpool to Muni, or bike to BART with a 15-minute walk, or some combination of all that). And I would probably have to take a pay cut. OTOH, local government job with low turnover and good benefits. ::shrugs::
TJ's vegetarian potstickers:
tommyrot, continued good luck with your dad.
And ita, I'm glad to hear the interview went well!
That sounds like a good interview, Consuela! Good luck with both possibilities.
Yay for good interviews day!
Poor Loki was presumed pregnant by the neighborhood kids tonight. And he accidentally met their pretty girlkitten ( oh god, why do I foresee a third cat??) and they were AMAZED at how both cats puffed up. Sigh, guess it's time to do some cat-ucation again.
Why is being near the end of the interviews bad? I had never heard that before.

Studies have shown that people in earlier positions are more likely to be remembered well, basically.
I did not know that. I always ask for the earliest possible spot, and worry I should be relying on recency, not primacy.
Good oops?
Huh. On the one hand, OK I guess if studies show it, then there's an effect, but on the other hand, if you click with the committee and it feels like it went well, that's a good thing no matter when in the cycle you interview.
