Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

The thing is, my neighbor A has been called once in the same amount or more of city residency. B has NEVER been called and he's been Bmore 30+ years and this address 20.

Yeah my mother gets called like every 5 years, and my father maybe got called once.

City's was notoriously messed up.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

So Dad had an MRI on Saturday, and this afternoon I learned that he had a stroke sometime in the last month. I feel like kind of a crappy daughter: turns out his wobblyness wasn't just a result of catching norovirus two weeks ago. Not much to be done other than take aspirin and keep an eye on him.

To bring this together with the current topic: he got a jury duty notice for August 11. He really can't get himself there, and I can hardly take time off for that. I may see if we can delay it for a year, and see what happens.

In better news, I had a lovely dinner with Vonnie last night, at which we realized we hadn't seen each other in about four or five years, which is ridiculous.

Punishingly Intricate

I don't even know what happened. It was awful. No way I got the job.

Meh. Sorry it didn't go well.

Found out today that my neighbor passed away while we were out of town. She was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer the same week that Bob was diagnosed with his cancer in Feb 2010, the week we had 2 huge blizzards. She'd held on pretty well, more or less, even after it metastasized to her brain a couple of years ago. She kept working for a long time. I can't remember if I said here but a couple of weeks ago I found her after she'd fallen getting back up on her porch while trying to walk her dog. She'd just gotten out of the hospital and was clearly very weak. I offered to walk her dog in the mornings for her (she had a dog walker coming in the afternoons) and did that for a few days until her daughter texted to say that she and her husband were taking the dog to live with them. Man. Fucking cancer. She was a nice lady and a good neighbor. She got to see both her kids get married at least, last year.

There is often an age limit where they can opt out preemptively-was just talking about this to my mom. At 69, she's not yet eligible in NM, but they've got a monthlong window where you have to call up everyday and she has a hernia surgery scheduled in that window- after she had to defer because of travel. And she had the same problem a couple years ago . It's like they find a warm body and weight it.

You might also cite medical.

And don't feel bad. I mean, my dad basically detailed a possible stroke in email to mom and it took him 2 weeks to see a goddamned doctor, even with us hectoring him ( and he kinda didn't talk to me for a bit..) It's hard.

Oh, lisa, I'm sorry. I remember her.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

I think I did the math once on LA County jury summons and you have a good chance of being called annually.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

She'd held on pretty well, more or less, even after it metastasized to her brain a couple of years ago.

Cancer is so brutal. I'm particularly hateful of brain cancer. I'm sorry.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

It's 74 degrees F and 53% humidity. Perfect weather.

And I went "gack! That's so humid!" That's the difference with a desert.

Ahahahahahaha.

I'm so sorry, lisah. I'm glad she got some time after the cancer metastasized to her brain, at least. Fuck you, cancer.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Oh lisah, I'm sorry. That's hard.

Cancer is so brutal. I'm particularly hateful of brain cancer. I'm sorry.

Also this.

I've been called for jury duty about 3 times since moving back into this house.

And Consuela, I send you much ~ma. I've been in the place where you are now, dealing with one aging parent and then another. It's so hard, and you handle it with such strength.
