I look more rad than Lutheranism

You grieve for your loved ones being in pain. That's a lot of pain.

Nephew's GF's mother is a really hard one (not that there's any hierarchy going on; just different circumstances) -- her high school graduation is *tomorrow.* My heart just breaks for her.

Nephew was living with his GF and mother in high school? Huh. But yes, that would be super super hard.

Yay Jesse with the new kitten! I am worried about mine--he is still very vocal, but he doesn't seem to want to eat or drink (he had a few sips and a few bites this morning, when I hung out with him, but didn't seem to have touched any of the food from last night, and I gave him a few kinds). And I canNOT get him to take his medicine! I don't know why he's fighting it so hard--I've literally had 11 or 12 kittens before him and not had any trouble getting them to take it. But he will hack it up and spit it out and have drool hanging from his face, rather than swallow it. And he's tiny! Very lovey though, he wants nothing more than to wind around ankles. And yowl at you.

meara, I volunteer Plei and myself for this. *I* dress like a vampire witch, but I am good at figuring out clothes for non-spooky people.

Ooh, I would be super into that (bonus: If you come soon, tiny black kitten!!)

If anyone wants a happy cry, the #hometovote hashtag worked for me.

Nephew is 22, actually. We all gave the relationship the side-eye HARD when he was 20 and hooked up with a 16-year-old, but he didn't go to college after high school, so he's not exactly in the same social scenarios your average 20-something would be. Anyway, yeah, we gave it the side-eye, but they've been together for almost 3 years now, and when he had to find a place to live because of something I can't even remember, his GF's mother said "Why don't you move in with us? You're here all the time anyway."

A 4-year age gap is nothing at our age, but it's huge at their age, but even though we were all really dubious about it (not to mention the legality of it, because they're obviously having The Sex), it's worked out well for them. We were totally expecting nephew to propose as soon as GF graduated, but that might change now. Or not. No idea. I feel so bad, for both of them.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Oh, man, that poor girl. My heart goes out to all your suffering friends but that does sound like a particularly hard time.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Teppy, that's hard. Tons of ~ma all around. I've also had some loved ones of loved ones die recently, and it is hard to see the people you care about in pain even if you don't know the person that died very well or at all.

Wow, Teppy, that poor girl, and your poor nephew. Man.

flea, I"ve definitely shed a few tears this morning looking at some of the tweets/pics/etc

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Also, Jesse, did you happen to know a guy named Kossouth in college, by any chance? We're the same year, right, college '94? He remains possibly the best looking person I have ever known in real life.

Sadly, no -- and I'm '95, hence the 20th reunion last weekend! I always thought the best looking guy at college when I was there was Rick Yune, not that I knew him, but he caught my eye on campus. When I started seeing him acting in stuff, I thought, "Man, he looks just like that hot guy from Penn -- must be a type." But no, same guy.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

meara, having just gone through the stress of watching a cat not eat, I'd recommend canned tuna, as that is tempting to even pretty unhappy kitties, and some of that high calorie supplement just to make sure the kitten is getting enough calories. It's called NutriCal (although there are probably other brands) and you basically get a fingerful across the roof of his mouth and he'll eat it. Poor little kitty!

And yay Jesse for middle aged lady cat! I'm so glad she found you.

Steph, even being in the position of support is hard, or it can be.
