When did 3-4 inch long beards become fashionable again? One of the agents on Agents of SHIELD had one, and no one was mocking him for it. They remind me of religious cult "prophets" and guys who want to live in the woods.

Did hipster beards go mainstream?

7-9 years ago? At least in Portland/San Francisco/Williamsburg.
I've got enough grey in my hair that it's noticeable to people talking to me. When I'm not being lazy about it, I henna it, which turns the grey strands into red highlights. The rest of my hair is too dark for the henna to make much of a difference.
Did hipster beards go mainstream?
They're appearing on people who are on the side of the good guys and who are being presented as competent human beings, not weirdos, so I guess so. I may have reached my "what are these kids doing these days?" point.
(I have to admit I was pleased when said person was killed so I wouldn't have to look at him any more )
I do adore Wil Wheaton, but I am not enjoying his recent Mountain Man Beard looks.
Not that what I think of it matters at all. And apparently his (even more awesome) wife doesn't mind it.
I am gonna be a pink or blue tinted haired old lady. TRUE FACT!
As soon as my hair goes all gray/white/silver, it will be ALL PINK.

8-10 years ago in Seattle in the hipster and queer scenes. ("lumbercore" = dressing like a lumberjack but using small-batch, hand-made, artesianal beard grooming products.)
Hipster beards work on almost no one.

Oh, dear. Admire my back to nature coolness, I spend $100 a month to maintain this look (your overpriced hipster maintenance may vary, what do I know, I live in Utah)
Maybe I somehow grew up in a beard-heavy environment, but that was not a particularly noteworthy beard and did not ping me as hipsterish.
I like my grey, which is kind of sparkly white like fishing line, and my stylist has told me on several occasions that she will not allow me to color it as she loves it. There does seem to be more of it every time I get my hair cut (I don't look in mirrors much in my daily life) and I'm ambivalent about that.
