Well I at least got him to call me back. (Text message: Call me right now before I book my flights).
I told him either he was coming to us or I'm coming to him for his birthday. ("Um, okay. Can I have an hour to decide?")
I didn't broach any Issues at this stage and the tone was very light. But one way or another he won't be alone this weekend, and then we'll see.

No. A friend of mine used to drive an old hearse, and you had to push a button on the dash to start the engine. Maybe not the first cars, but there were some like that.

Okay. Going out on Friday night, back on Monday AM.
The fact that he chose to have me come in I think may be indicative of his mental state - either not enough spoons to go, or to deal with the whole fam. But I think it's actually better this way in terms of really talking.
