In the continuing saga that is my family, oldest son got arrested for drunk driving. Dad bailed him out. WTF, Dad? Took him to his scheduled outpatient rehab program, where they told Dad to take him to the ER because he was drunk and hallucinating (he's also been abusing his ativan). And apparently, when he was driving Mom home from the ER and she was screaming at him to slow down, stop at the lights, get back into the right lane, he began pounding the steering wheel and screaming "I'm not out of control!". If they hadn't been driving, Mum would still have been fearful for her safety. Christ.
At least Mum finally realizes that he can't come home. And he's bad enough finally that he can get financial assistance in getting into a full-time rehab clinic.
Dublin is a lovely city. I am positive they have sushi. But it is across the ocean from your family.
Is there not sushi in Dublin?
Does pickled herring count? They have that.
A friend of mine had job offers in Dublin and LA, and noted that they were the same distance from his family home in Maine.
Dublin was much more distant in travel time, though, given the paucity of Portland-Dublin flights.
He decided based on sunshine and mountains anyway, not distance.
The next project on my list is a) looking for a needle in a haystack, and b) something that I was told could wait until tomorrow.
It turns out this is not a good combination for me.
Silly me was very confused when you started talking about Mountain View vs Dublin because there is a Dublin across the bay from Mountain View. Then...ahh, not that Dublin.
It occurs to me I should ask Dear NSA what else I should have in my Zebra Footage folder.
(Note: my Zebra Footage folder is pretty much just CEvans pictures. I find them soothing.)
I appreciate the advice, y'all.

Yeah, that is a valid concern now that I'm checking travel times from Dublin to where my family lives in Michigan. Yikes.
Dublin is a lovely city, I concur. MV has much to offer too. I think this is one of the all win scenarios.
It's probably more expensive, shrift, but Air Canada does directs flights from Dublin to Toronto. I don't know how hard it would be to get home from there.
