Vindication of pack rat habits!
A year or so ago I wanted to re-read a fic I'd written, one of my better ones, 10 to 15 years old. So I searched my drives. And my disks. And my drives again. And all the disks, including the ones I knew it wouldn't be on.
And it was gone, another victim to bad data management. I swore a lot, wept a small tear, sighed and shrugged.
Tonight I was going through some old piles of CDs, old program install files and such. I found a backup CD from 2001 and was about to add it to the Toss pile when I thought "Wait. Maybe?"
And there it is. The original folders of all my fics and the file I gave up for lost a year ago. Don't get rid of backups until you've absolutely confirmed all files are saved!
Grey's Anatomy: Well, there's that.
The Hubble telescope being 25 years old is exceptionally amazing. And yet it makes me feel old.
Know what else makes me feel old? Last week, we watched "Look Who's Talking" at one of the houses I work at. My coworker that day is in her early twenties, she has a year old daughter. She said, "That's not what pregnancy tests look like!" So I explained what a big change home pregnancy tests made. And then I said, "You aren't familiar with the phrase, 'the rabit died', are you?" She wasn't, so I had to explain that, too.
Living history. Almost fossilized, I swear.

Boo lack of avocados. Also possibly boo Grey's--haven't watched, but given some non-specific spoilers and ...well, and what happened the last couple episodes, I can guess.
I went to a cuddle party tonight! I think it might've been better if I weren't so SLEEPY, I was like "ooh, pajamas and comfy pillows and zzzzzzzzz" But it was less weird and awkward than I had feared. I might go to another one sometime. Might not. But potentially.
OMG meara, that is like my nightmare. So thanks for going so I don't have to! Is it actually cuddling with strangers?
Woke up stupid early, will go to work early, but not THAT early.
Currently making me feel old: logged onto fb this morning to see that my host sister from Moldova, Natasha, got engaged. I watched her hit puberty and last saw her when she was 15.
I beat everyone into work this morning! At least, everyone in my department...
You are so adventurous, meara! I don't think that's something I ever want to do, but I do feel better for hearing that it's not as weird and awkward as I might suppose, for some reason.
I'm trepidatious about watching Grey's. I might put it off for a while.
