Folks here who know the DC area well: Our annual meeting has been scheduled in DC during the cherry blossom time, and whoever booked our hotel didn't reserve enough rooms. Now they're scrambling to get everyone rooms. They've told us that some of us may have to stay in "nearby" Virginia or Maryland. Our meeting hotel is on K Street. Am I right, that getting to that hotel at 7am from VA or MD could easily take an hour? I don't think they're taking that travel time into account. Or, maybe they just don't care; that's a distinct possibility.

Zen, it will be a nightmare. An hour is a good day. And you can't always rely on Metro to get you their in a timely fashion either. Cherry Blossom Festival will further complicate the commute with clueless drivers trying to get into the city.
I have heard of people running into headaches there too (the warranty only covering the cheapest model, for example, instead of higher efficiency options).
It is spelled out in the contract documents, but I have the option to obtain an upgraded model and pay the difference. My upgraded coverage takes out of the equation the age of the system/appliance.
A home warranty has also saved sarameg's ass at least once. As with everything, you need to know what you're getting into.
Can home brewing be far away for me?
I heartily volunteer to be a taste tester.
Yay, I got to see the family flea's new house! It's a nice bungalow with a lot of room, on a lovely street. And then we had Indian food, yum.
That sounds like good times, Teppy and flea!
Mmmm, Indian. I think I'll have that for lunch, if I can find parking downtown.
Woo hoo! Congrats to flea and family, and lucky Tep for being the first to see it.
Maria, I figured you'd know! Thank you; now I feel more confident telling my boss something she ain't gonna wanna hear.
X-post with Bitches: ltc is a girl! I won't get a chance to tell my in-laws until this weekend. So, I'm only posting it here for now.
Zen, from my MD town it takes 20 minutes to get downtown on Metro; it really depends on how nearby, and how long a walk to/from Metro. Driving is a much bigger PITA, I think, but I can still get there in 20-30 minutes because all the routes are tweaked for commuters (extra lanes, etc.).
