Aw, Jesse. I hope it takes care of whatever and she bounces back fast. (And is gentle to herself until she does.)

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Thanks! She's going in once a week for a month or something, so we'll see and hope this does it!

There are many kinds of chemo. Nausea is a possibility. Probably lethargy if they're using the really aggressive drugs.

Yeah, I wish I had any idea what the actual treatment is! But either of those sounds likely....

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Best of luck to your mom, Jesse. Hope it doesn't treat her too harshly.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

It's on him for sure, but I've been there and she will make all these fattening, calorie-filled dishes every night. She won't stop buying cookies and candy either "for guests."

Yeah, I feel like in a situation where one person cooks for the family and a family member has dietary restrictions, the designated cook should accommodate. It's just basic courtesy.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

A high school friend posted about how Spirit's new marketing campaign: [link] is just striking her wrong with it's juvenile sexual innuendo. I'm so glad she posted because I was able to score 2 tix between LA and Cleveland to see my dad whose health is declining for $69 RT. Thanks for your outrage, friend, because it helped me find cheap tix at literally 1/8 the usual price.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

Just finished the InCryptid; I liked the first Alex book, but I liked this one even better. Was a lot of fun.

My GOD, Seanan McGuire is a prolific writer. I know Sunil is friends with her, but Jesus, does she ever sleep? 4 series and a fuckton of short stories in how many years? And with a ton of research, too, especially with the Mira Grant novels she does. DAMN.

Heh. That's great!

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

If meals were entirely up to my preferences, there would be a lot more meat. But I married a vegetarian, and that's not even a medically necessary dietary restriction. It's just compromise, because that's how it works. (I don't think this makes me worthy of a cookie, to be clear. I assumed that's how marriage/long-term relationships work.)

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Jesse, chemo~ma for your ma.

Kat, have a safe journey.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

Any idea what she should expect to feel like?

Without knowing the chemo, it's hard to tell. A few general tips: She should drink plenty of water before the infusion and an antihistamine could help. She should ask if nausea is a possibility and, if so, she should get an antinausea prescription and fill it. Then she should take it for two or three days. It's a mistake to wait and see if a drug causes nausea. Generally, most people feel fine the day of chemo, and start feeling it the day after. It's a good idea to have something like Ensure on hand to make sure she gets enough nutrition if she doesn't feel like eating.
