So, I just heard a rumor that the head of the Classics Library at the local university is planning to retire at the end of the summer. A very well-sourced rumor. I was not expecting this for a long time (she's, I think, just 65.) In one way, it's the perfect job for me. In another way, I am not at all sure I am what they would be looking for. I am also rather wary of the politics of the situation - this is the library attached to the department where I was a PhD student. While I was well-regarded when a student, I kind of know too much about everyone to be quite at ease with then as a left-my-dissertation fugitive.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Apply anyway! All they can do is say No!
Unless they have a cadre of ninjas who hunt down people who didn't finish their dissertations.
Only got to swim 1/4 of my usual because pool had to close and they weren't sure if they'd reopen for over an hour. Cranky. And I brouhgt them cookies. (In fairness, it was a sub guard who messed it up, so I'm not mad at our staff.)
ION, I haven't heard the details of whatever I've done wrong over the year, but I did get a raise! About 83 dollars a month, but yay, raise!
Yay, Connie! A raise is a good thing!
Yay, raise, Connie!

I hate when the supervisor says "Can you come to my office?" on an IM. Odds are I'd know if I was about to be fired, but there's always that adrenaline spike.
Maria, rather than burnout, could it just be TOO FUCKING MUCH WORK? Because a shitton just got dropped on you at not ideal time. I mean that facilitates burnout if it never relents, but the onset of a period of that sure feels the same. Senior review for this 36 month long painful project is Monday. If we get approval, launch in a month. Worst of the work is done, but I'm not off the treadmill from hell yet. And then I can focus on the other six projects from hell that are also high profile that have languished as this thing has tortuously ground along.
Housing~ma to those dealing with it.
You know, three-buck Chuck is surprisingly drinkable, at least in the Cab Sav version.
I'm rewatching the Avengers and wondering if any of the jobs to which I've applied will ever call me for an interview. Or maybe climate change will make the North Atlantic Current stop, and I can make a living subletting my second bedroom to Midwesterners fleeing encroaching glaciers. Both seem equally likely.
