Sometimes the text just literally says "rates increased over time," without providing dates. Hence my pickle.
Rates increased as the Earth rotated.
Rates increased in proportion to universal entropy.
Yeah, in that case I'd go with across time, as Jesse suggests.
(still think "over time" sounds better)
