I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

My problem is when people hold up "healthy eating" as obviating the need for those horrible, horrible drugs that are really just a scam. It's just not an either/or thing for a lot of people. (And medication is not a scam.)

Yeah, you know who lived on organically grown vegetables and free-range, antibiotic-free meat? Pre-1492 Native Americans. This group lost ~90% of its population between 1492 and the 1700s due to diseases introduced by Europeans. Almost all of these diseases can be cured, prevented, or mitigated today by drugs. [link]

I'm not wild about some pharma sales tactics, but I definitely value their products.

Oh I still remember my high school chemistry teacher talking about how they used to love benzene and wash their hands in it and stuff, before they knew that was a bad idea!

I woke up and kept hitting snooze and then being confused what the noise was when it went off. Like, had a dream I downloaded some sort of spam alarm clock app that I couldn't figure out how to get it off my phone (in reality I just needed to WAKE UP)

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

My train was delayed about 90 minutes this morning (with me on it) because the train ahead of it had broken down. Then my boss texted me that his daughter had been in an accident and he was going to the hospital in Chicago.

Damn. At that point I stopped caring about the train delay.

Apparently my MRA-Republican/Libertarian brother sent my sister an article from Psychology Today (unprompted) about how this dude (the writer) who is an evolutionary psychologist is really a feminist, but OTHER feminists are giving him (and feminism in general) a bad name by refusing to believe in gender differences that are TOTES evolutionary psych. The other feminists including some academic types I couldn't comment on, and...Jezebel. Srsly???

I just don't even. I mean, yes, the fact that he opens his article with, that a lot of women don't want to be called feminists, is clearly showing that SOMEONE is "giving feminism a bad name", but methinks it is....not who he's pointing at. Ugh.

Also, while I appreciate the reminder that my body is still fertile, I do not appreciate the cramps. Or last night's migraine (which often happens this time of month--yay hormones changing all the time? Ick)

....I might be in a bit of a grumpy mood today.

Meeting went about as well as to be expected. I mean, we didn't get miraculously scooped up and signed to another contract, but that wasn't even in the realm of my expectations. Oh, and no one is being fired, either. But if you want to take the risk of quitting to protect your interests, all new vacancies will never again be this subcontract….

My mgmt is basically on the same page that this state of affairs is not only not to our personal benefit, but that they don't like the risk this is placing on the mission. It's going up the food chain and they really want all the unsugarcoated version of impact on the work.

Nothings happening fast and nothing will happen immediately (other than the suck) but I'm not pessimistic, either.

GOOD. About freaking time.

To be fair, they've not always been told, edges get rounded… (this mgmt is main contract.) There is a can-do culture here that can be unhealthy. We've been nudged to protect ourselves where mgmt's hands are tied for the short term.

CSC doesn't care one way or the other, never will.
