My maternal grandpa used to invite missionaries in to get my grandmother to debate with them. It drove her nuts, but farm manners dictated hospitality and she couldn't pass up an argument( she wasn't super religious, but she knew her bible like whoa.) Grandpa just liked to see her being brainy.
I GOT TO SWIM!!
"It's nice in here. Indoors."
Items from work I can't vent about on fb.
- Speaker phone in an open working area where other people are on the phone is RUDE. Also, INSIDE VOICE. I swear less than half the people I work with know what that is.
- Refusing my requested vacation days is starting to piss me off. I do not care why you are doing it (he thinks it is saving me from having to use them), I do not want to have to RUSH on the days I need to cover the kid or get the kid registered for school. Rushing is not my friend.
- And about those vacation requests, don't ask me why I need to take off. I wrote "appt" - that is all you need to know. I only get 10 days off a year and I work every 4th weekend. Damn, give me off when I ask off unless another office worker is already off.
I need to apply for jobs and WAS TOO FRUSTRATED TO FOCUS tonight. beer.
If 'it's personal' isn't cutting it, I think you need to go with Texas-sized outlandish:
- mission for the country! it's classified
- I'm having my absorbed twin removed
- I really can't talk about it, but if you'd like to donate to reforming renegade longhorns, I can hook you up.
- I'm going to have really bad gas that day. Environmental hazard, violates OSHA.
Reporting in that cleaning under the refrigerator seems to have made an improvement. The temp is holding steadier and nothing new is frozen. Stuff that did freeze is defrosting.
That is all ridiculous. RIDICULOUS. I'd be calling out sick as much as possible.
Edit: msbelle's stuff, not shrift's.
he thinks it is saving me from having to use them
The what now? Is he okay with you being out of the office and not using a vacation day, then?
I was thinking about having a beer anyway, but now I will have one in solidarity with msbelle.
YOU GUYS. There's a Kerfuffle Foundation!
And they put their money where their mouth is.
(he thinks it is saving me from having to use them)
WTF uh thanks?! How the hell is denying you vacation days a plus in any way, shape, or form?
Speaking of jobs, we are hiring 10 new faculty members this year. Shocking! And only 1 of our top candidates turned down the job. That probably says more about the state of the academic job market in the humanities (which must be anemic) than about how fantastic my job is, but still it's a good reminder that this is a good gig for NTT.
In the registration instance. I have to register mac btw 8:30 - 11:30 on a weekday, so I put in for a half day off. I thought I could sleep in, not rush, deal with any lines that might be there. Now I don't lose a day off, but feel I should be there right at 8:30 and will need to go straight in to work when done.
For the day I asked off today, I have no nanny and no grandparents available. Mac has band from 9 - 11:30, so again, instead of sleeping in, getting him there and picking him up and only being slightly rushed to get to work at 11:30, I feel like like I should go in at 8, leave at 8:30, go back after dropping mac off, work until 11, the go pick him up and get right back to work. frazzled.
