Well, fuck, Maria.
sarameg, I trust you weren't hurt badly.
In Onerous Task news, I made myself enroll in the identity theft protection thingy included in AAA membership. I swear, interacting with that website was like pulling teeth out of molasses in January. It took each page 3 minutes to load up AND they don't tell you what characters are acceptable in which fields until you hit "save" so it can take three minutes to load up the page that tells you to edit the entry. Then it takes another three minutes to save the corrected information. Then it takes another three minutes to load up the page for entering another set of information. Grr, Arrrgh.
Hah, meara! It's ok. It's just a huge PITA. The title insurance will cover it, including the penalties and interest, and going forward it won't be a problem. Nibbled to death by ducks, I tell ya....
Oh, ugh, Maria.
My bitch of the day is that the new workplace, which is only 20 minutes by car (assuming one has a parking space, which I don't), is 30 minutes by shuttle and 55 minutes by bus, and the shuttles leave only once every 20 minutes (with the direct shuttle not even starting until 7AM), so in order to be there in time to do all the setup needed for the 7:30 Tuesday morning I need to be at the old workplace in time to catch the 5:50 shuttle and be there by 6:33, because 6:53 will be too late. So, knowing my early morning habits, I must be up and at 'em by 4:45 every Tuesday morning, and if I miss that 5:50 I'm fucked.
Not that I haven't gotten up that early regularly before, but back then it was for a performing arts high school and I was filled with hopes and dreams and the absurd fiery energy of teenagerhood, and now I am old and bitter and full of don't wanna.
OTOH, at least I live in SF and this is a once a week thing, whereas if I were one of the Seattle transplants who foolishly bought a house out in Contra Costa 4:45 AM would be tediously normal.
Still, SO DO NOT WANNA.
Ugh, Maria.
Also ugh to JZ. It's one thing to choose a longer commute for your own reasons, but to have your workplace move to a less convenient location to the extent that you have to get up at a ridic early hour on the regular is really just unfair.
That is way too early, JZ. Where the heck have they moved you to?? Could you maybe bike there and save time?
JZ, force them to go to webex or whatever online equivalent you use. Seriously, that is serious bullshit.
I'm using that word a lot. Not good.
Ugh Maria, that is a complete PITA. AND it kept you from drinking tonight! Unfair!
I spent the day running around TCB but feeling like I only took care of the smallest parts. Argh. I no longer know how to adult.
I want to bike out and will eventually, but the bike needs a tuneup as well as reflectors and lights and other stuff to make sure I don't get crushed by early drivers, so definitely no way to do it by tomorrow. Maybe next Tuesday, though.
I think it's 25-30 min. by bike, which should be manageable. I'm just concerned that the bike is a speedless, gearless cruiser and there's one serious bastard of a hill, and consequently I must have access to a shower once I get to work or they'll just send my steaming overly-moistened self straight home again.
It's just one day a week, I keep telling myself (the meeting was canceled last week so I had no idea of the uncongenial shuttle schedule until just now).
It's already about halfway online already, but there's also a bunch of unavoidable paperwork which is never, ever ready for processing before Tuesday morning.
Agree that it's an absurd commute, JZ. Ptooey!
