Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Agree that it's an absurd commute, JZ. Ptooey!

JZ Cody rides his bike to work everyday. He ends up stashing a change of clothes at work for when he gets there, but no shower. If you want, you can call him or email me/him and ask about how to make it work.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

Ugh, JZ, that is utterly ridiculous.

Bullshit is a good word and so useful, Sara. It totally applies to many of our days today.

I got nothing else.

I usually hate online mtgs with the heat of a thousand suns but that's more because the meeting runner sucks and people are stupid about how to behave in them (I run mine like a fucking drill sergeant.) But there's a definite place for them. And worth looking into forcing that Tuesday paperwork into a place where it cooperates (aka, making the hold ups paaaay.)

Punishingly Intricate

It's one thing to choose a longer commute for your own reasons, but to have your workplace move to a less convenient location to the extent that you have to get up at a ridic early hour on the regular is really just unfair.

Argh, yeah. How many miles is it by bike? If you start riding it regularly and it's just one bastard hill you'll probably be able to do it without breaking too much of a sweat soon enough.

Still, I'd propose to the meeting organizer that, given the change in the commute for everyone either the meeting time be moved to later in the day or that the deadline for submitting meeting materials be the previous afternoon.

My whole last week was taken up with organizing and reorganizing meetings. ugh. It was so bad that I had stress dreams about it all weekend. But, I started seeing a new and awesome therapist, mostly to deal with my work unhappiness. She wants me to visualize having a new job by June (specifically riding my bike to my new job!). We'll see how that goes!

brillig

My commute tripled last year when the company moved to the brand new shiny building. One reason I want to move, the place I'm looking at is halfway between work and wehre I am.

You PM, lisah?

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Still, I'd propose to the meeting organizer that, given the change in the commute for everyone either the meeting time be moved to later in the day or that the deadline for submitting meeting materials be the previous afternoon.

Totally.

As for commuting by bike - my HR department recommended baby wipes when I asked about the possibility of an onsite shower. I'll let you know how that goes once sunrise gets a little earlier (next week according to the All-knowing Phone). And I have an extra bike lying around if you want to try one with gears, although it is short because it is mine, so possibly not an actual improvement in comfort for you.

or they'll just send my steaming overly-moistened self straight home again.

Or maybe try for this outcome and see if they can learn how to set up this particular meeting without you...

You PM, lisah?

Do you mean project manage? I can but I prefer not to. Or, not to as the majority of my job.

We will be having more openings, just not sure what. JWST work is slowly ramping up. I just know PMs are probably sought sooner.
