We have blinds on all our windows--which also face south. They are in regular use. It's actually worse on light cloudy days, because the light is diffuse. On cloudless days, if the sun isn't shining directly in, it's wonderful. As the year progresses, the sun is shifting enough to not shine directly in, except for the Officehenge on the west and east ends of the building.

The sun only comes directly in on my computer monitor for about half an hour in the afternoon ... but the light is so bright, I'm pretty much blind without sunglasses.

For offices with crazy fluorescent lights, they make these... Film-like? Covers you can put between the bulb and the cover. They come in different colors and patterns. A coffee shop near here has some space-themed ones that are very pretty.

I'm of the buy-new-drip-pans school. Hey, while you are cleaning/replacing the drip pans, take the opportunity to clean the contacts on your electric burners. Corrosion increases resistance.
We have no windows in this part of the building. I have to go through a door to get to a window.
Why aren't drip pans coated in Teflon?
I'm pretty sure that exists, but really it's so much easier to just get new ones. I have a high tolerance for drip pans with gook burned on to them, though.
