All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

I decided to call email in sick to work today. It's a good think I glanced at it before I hit send. Even though the subject line was "sick day" I managed to have "suck day" in the text of the email.

In random news of the day, it seems WWE fans are complaining about the writing. Huh.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Yay streak!

I'm starting to think I may actually be sick and not just have a case of the Mondays, as it were. Hm.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I had a manager who, I'm pretty sure, set me up to fail a lot. She did this to a number of people (I think she wanted to be seen as "saving" the department by rescuing it from our "mistakes"), and got two of my coworkers fired in the process. She was encouraged to move on years before my layoff, but it sure did a number on my self confidence. In spite of getting paid to edit and write for years, I'm having trouble applying to positions where that's a major part of the job because, what if she's right? What if I'm just to stupid to even recognize the way my writing fails? And then I slap myself upside the head and apply anyway.

Anyway, I'm currently watching Finding Bigfoot. This episode is especially fun because they're teaming up with ghost hunters, leading to such gems as, "I can't say for sure if that was a ghost, so I'm going to focus on something I know exists--Bigfoot!"

I would like more details of this, please.

That what I got from my brief exploration of the CancelWWENetwork hashtag on Twitter. [link]

brillig

I am always boggled by people who get their jollies from having endeavors they're involved with struggle and fail.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I had a manager who, I'm pretty sure, set me up to fail a lot.

My first job out of college, I had a manager who consistently threw me under the bus in staff meetings when something she was responsible for didn't get done (BigBoss: "Such-and-such problem;" Manager: "That was something Steph promised to handle"), and I was too shocked to try to reply.

Of course, this is the job where a co-worker threw an expensive camera at my head when I told him I needed it to shoot a ribbon-cutting, and when I told the HR manager I was concerned that not only could I have been hurt, company property would have been damaged, I ended up being fired a week later, with the explanation that I "just wasn't working out" in my position (after having that position for 18 months and getting a GIANT raise and an "exceeds expectations" review 6 months prior).

What I'm saying is that they sucked all the way around, HARD.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I'm terrible at looking for jobs because when I'm looking is usually when I feel bad about my job! After I got fired, I had two years of grad school and still needed some work therapy before I could effectively apply for a new one. NB: The lady I met with thought she was helping me work on my resume and how it could be tailored for different things. I used her for work therapy.

information libertarian

We went under contract on a house this morning! [link] It's a great location for us - we lived around the corner in 1996-2000 and used to walk on the street, which is a cul-de-sac, and admire it. It's a total grandma house - it literally has the same wallpaper in the kitchen that my grandparents did - but seems solid; it's built like a brick house, which it is. We settled on a price that is a LOT less than what was initially asked, which should let us do some renovations and/or deal with the teetering garage.
