It's zoomed up to 17 here in DC, but my DH tells me that the heat pump at home is not working, boo! (We have radiators on one of three floors, so we are not completely without heat.) Oh, well, we wanted to consult with our HVAC person anyway to ask about what our options are if we renovate this Spring.

Stay warm, people! We have the opposite problem at our place. Yesterday it was high 70s, the day before it was 80. This morning, I dressed the kids in t-shirts and shorts (which was a little under-dressed for the 60 degree walk to school).

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Are you having ice storms back there yet? I kind of miss seeing the pine trees encased in ice. Kind of. Such pretty tinkling sounds as the frozen needles knock against each other in the breeze.

No ice storms yet. Just cold. I'm getting all my clothing layers prepared for classes next week -- the university never cancels classes, even when everything else in the county is closed, and the classrooms are all ridiculously over-heated, so I need to have enough layers so that I'll be OK in both 0 degrees and 80 degrees.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

Hil, you really need a better apartment. I hope you find a new job and get out of there, but if not, you should move.

My dog is in for her spay operation and I am having trouble concentrating on the trials and tribulations of the students and faculty on this first day of classes while I wait for the phone call that tells me everything went fine and she is doing well.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

There's a layer of ice on the inside of my bathroom window.

Mine too.

When they rehabbed my place, they replaced all the windows except the bathroom one. If it gets really cold I could cover that window with plastic so showers would be more comfortable.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

We have a high of 10 degrees today, and I am home with the office crud. No one has figured out if it's a cold or a weird strain of flu. Either way, it's cut a swath through my department and I am the latest to fall.

Also worried about ita.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Oh! Speaking of weather, I might be getting screwed out of my Caribbean work trip next month! Or I might get to bust my ass and take on a higher-level thing there at the same time. One or the other, tbd next week.
