Natter 73: Chuck Norris only wishes he could Natter
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I was wondering what to do with myself tomorrow, then I checked the dollar movie website. Guardians of the Galaxy is there! I didn't miss it! Movie! And if I catch the first matinee, hopefully everyone else will be out shopping or still recovering from today.
Edit: Or they'll all be going to see Left Behind, which is also showing at the dollar movie. Poor Nicholas Cage.
And my insane husband is packing for a camping trip all weekend.
CJ is also camping this weekend. In the Rockies. I'm staying home, nice and warm.
Our Christmas tree is up, no decorations yet. I'll putter with the other stuff over the next 3 days.
Camping in winter! Crazy!
The pies all went off well--I think the pecan-hazelnut-bourbon pie was the hit, although that may be the last time I bother with hazelnuts. Hard to find, and harder to peel. I'll stick with pecans next year. But the bourbon and butter and sea salt was a great combination.
Very full now, and probably will be hungover, but I promised to go running in the morning with my niece & her friends. Woops.
Oh, and we found out that a spoon my BIL might have picked up at a yard sale twenty years ago is worth $200. Wow.
Wow, how did you find that out? Is it some sort of decorative spoon, or a serving spoon, or?
Went to a friend's house and ate WAAAY to much along with about 16 other peeps. Oh, and I had a Moscow Mule, which was deelish. After dinner, we sat around and all sang enthusiastically if not harmonically along with the musicians in our midst to various rock oldies. We had a mandolin, two ukeleles and a guitar all playing together.
When I went to roast the chickens, (we decided that turkey is not really a tasty bird, and that we prefer chicken) after roasting the normal time found the top was cooked perfectly, but the bottom was nearly raw. Did not want the cooked part to burn, so cut the half cooked chickens into quarters, put them back in oven raw side up - they cooked fine. Something must be wrong with our oven. I did the usual thing I do to roast whole chickens -- 15 minutes at 475 to caramelize the skin, then 20 minutes per pound at 350. Check with meat thermometer toward end, since cooking time is an approximation and needs to be adjusted up or down a bit. But half the chicken raw, and half cooked is not where it should be after that long cooking.
Ugh. Two hours in, only two passengers. Why no love, Uber?
Do like my last driver and due for Lyft too!
I had a ten out of fucking ten headache. One that deserves the hyperbole and a half pain chart--I don't think I've ever screamed for
hours
before. I barfed a little when I first got to the ER, in that sort of
don't fight the feeling
sort of way. Just a little. And then in the middle of having meds pushed I had to interrupt her and upchuck all the water I'd drunk since. 550cc. I'm so proud...
At least the pain is at an eight now.
Oh shit! PMM, I posted the littlest Winter Soldier to the io9 chat group. I figured since it gets fewer readers than Jilli's tumblr it should be okay. I can nuke it if you like.
One of the other posters said his young son went as Falcon and had multiple staredowns with a few little Winter Soldiers. None as cute as Tickybox (whose nomme du net was posted by someone else--she's anonymously famous!) though.
Ow, ita. I hope it continues to get better.
I want to make some cream puffs as a test for the croquembouche I want to make for Christmas. I have all this buttermilk leftover, so would it be weird to put buttermilk pudding inside cream puffs??
