I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Happy Thanksgiving as appropriate! -t, I'm glad things worked out in the end. Kat, I'd go with whichever had the least cleanup, because I'm lazy like that. All things being equal, the ginger and garlic green beans sound delicious.

I had a Thanksgiving dinner with friends last Saturday and another one planned for next Saturday, but today it's me and the cat. I'll be making chicken sautéed in brown butter and rosemary, dressing and gravy, steamed broccoli, and a tart tatin. I'll also be putting up the Christmas tree, which I always love doing, so I'm looking forward to the day.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I'm drinking coffee, looking out at the snow and listening to the dogs snore. It's nice being the only one up. Happy Thanksgiving.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

-t, what a stressful start to the holiday weekend!! Really glad only the truck was hurt.

I did NOT get into a terrifying accident this year driving to my parents' house, but I did see some hella terrible driving (through a wintry mix storm on I-95), including one car that missed the exit, cut across the divider lane to get to it anyway, and then CHANGED THEIR MIND and made a U-turn back onto the entrance ramp!! And then got off at the next exit, which presumably was the one they wanted.

My parents have a full house this year, so DH and I booked a hotel room (with points!) and left the kids with Bubbe and 'Pa Bill. WINNING. Only downside is I'm not sure any restaurants are open for breakfast today, and the rate we got with points doesn't include breakfast here at the hotel.

brillig

I'm looking forward to going to work today. The freeway shouldn't be too bad--I can hear it from my house, and it's very quiet out there--and the company is bringing in a feast for us. I have a movie to watch and knitting to play with.

Of course, this means that the Canadians will have some catastrophe that they need to call us about.

Winning indeed! I'm about to run a five mile race. So not prepared.

Apparently if I go to bed really late, I wake up after 5 hrs. Good to know! Time to cranberry. Well, as soon as it won't rudely wake everyone up.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I slept a lot again last night! I really thought those days were behind me. Negotiated our time of departure with my mother -- she's not concerned about being later than the time we were told to come, since dinner isn't for hours, but I think that's rude since we're bringing hors d'oeuvres. Traffic is a crapshoot and often a clusterfuck on Thanksgiving around noon.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Today I have been to Roxbury and Jamaica Plain, and two train stations. I'm getting very good at knowing where clean public restrooms are...

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Happy Thanksgiving!

Kat, you have probably already decided, but I vote ginger and garlic. That sounds particularly delicious right now.

I hope you can find breakfast, Jess, and don't encounter any more wackaloon drivers (really, spellcheck? Warckaloon is more of a word than wackaloon?)

Have a calm and relaxing day at work, Connie. And a profitable and not too stressful day for you, Theo.

Good race, meara! 5 miles, that's long! You can do it!

I stayed in bed until some light came in my window, which was awesome, and now I'm going to have some coffee. Maybe I will give the rabbits a carrot, get their Thanksgiving feast going early.

meara, have you tried microwaving scrambled eggs in a mug? Am I remembering right that you were the one thinking about it? Anyway, I am becoming a fan of microwaved scrambled eggs in a jar - it's quick, I don't need to dirty a whisk or fork to beat the eggs. and I can see how done they are through the door (important because I can never remember even the rough estimate of how long it is supposed to take). I experimented with keeping jars of mixed egg stuff in the fridge to just pop in the microwave and I'm not thrilled with how that works, but having everything but the egg in the jar ahead of time still makes for a quick and easy breakfast.
